I like the player, think he would be a great add.

I also like that this shows that Drury isn’t planning to be the high bidder. Paying a 7th to “jump the line” has to be to buy time to sell Goodrow on what they are building in NY. How he would fit in.

Maybe blind optimism but I would hope that Drury is doing this because he knows the NYR won’t be the high $ bid on UFA day.

Bringing in a veteran winner and a different element for the bottom six is fine, the team really doesn't have enough jam or forecheck, but there's a certain number where it would become a clown move. Like 6 years/3M would be hilarious if it was any other team

I really like Goodrow but let’s hope he doesn’t get a Brandon Tanev type contract at 6 years, $3-4 million like some are speculating. He’s 28 years old and only had 6 points in each Tampa cup run (12 points in 43 games) with 42 penalty minutes. Even in this past cup run he only had 2 points in 13 games before facing the worst team he’s faced so far in either cup run and finishing with 4 points in the 5 games against them. Only 2 assists in 20 games the year before the first run with San Jose. Of course he isn’t here to provide offense, but don’t overpay for the hype for a guy who’s already won his cups and is looking for a retirement contract. Should be looking for the next Barclay Goodrow, not exactly Goodrow right now. Again don’t get me wrong I wanted Goodrow to sign here but let’s be careful

Honestly if all he was getting was the Fast deal, Tampa would have probably found a way to keep him.

This one will probably hurt years wise.

I get that every dollar counts and that they fill different roles but 3 mil for Goodrow when we can’t afford 5.5 for Buch seems odd.

Correct. He's exactly the type of the player the team needs. Hilarious to think anyone would go and look at his goals/assists/points in a vacuum. The Rangers have a ton of skill and firepower. They need a guy like this who they can trust in big spots with a lead. And getting leads isn't exactly NYR's problem. Keeping them? Well...

Figure out how to get the deal done.
3rd liner with Tampa so definitely a 3rd liner here.
Yep. Our 3rd line was not given 3rd line minutes either. He played over 17 minutes a game for us in the 2021 playoff run. 5th most for us among our forwards. His linemate Yanni Gourde averaged 17:36 a game. We relied heavily on that line to win. He's a shutdown guy. The value there is in what he keeps out of your net, not what he puts in your opponents.

With Fast it was that they didn't want to go to the third year.

If we're hoping for the Fast deal or similar for Goodrow, I would guess we'll be... disappointed.

I feel like that was such a bullshit excuse from the Rangers. If Fast falls off the face of the earth and becomes one of the worst players in the league next season, can’t trade him for anything etc… This is the cost Carolina gets for buying out his third year.

Yeah I thought it was poor logic at the time and still do. Some people also pointed out how tight we were with the cap with the bonuses, but you could have just not signed Jack Johnson, basically.
