I swear some people here don't even like this team. Ranger fans "we need playoff experience, grit, versatility and the ability to chip in". Also Ranger fans "we dont wanna pay for that"
You can find gritty players with playoff experience without committing to them for 6 years at a high cap hit.
That's like saying "Oh you don't want to trade Kravtsov for Reaves? You don't really want grit then. You don't like this team" lol

Players pay tax on a game-by-game basis, based on where they play. The 0% is only for games in FL, TX, NV, WA etc.

The difference between TBL and NYR is roughly the home games only. So that's 50% of the season. So the state income tax for NY is 6% up to 1m, 9% up to 5m.

So that's a difference of roughly 4-5% of the total base salary compared to a 3.6m contract in Tampa
Signing Bonuses are paid at place of residence no? Panarin has $1,000,000 salary.

Dom Lunchchicken said it was one of the worst contracts he has ever seen, and he's king of the stat nerds. Seeing him stroke out about it actually reassured me the deal would be okay.

Basically count on it being a coin flip as to whether Goodrow is still here in the 5th season, and count on him not making it to the 6th year. What are our options to ditch him at that point and can the first four years make that cost worth it? We will find out. With guys like Cuylle, Barron, Berard, etc, in the pipeline or on ELCs with no big pay raises imminent, I feel decent that we can manage to get through 4 years with this guy's salary before replacing him with one or two of those names.

Correct. Depends on where you are registered. I know Trouba and Shestyorkin have a house in Fort Lauderdale for instance. So their (potential) signing bonuses would be exempt from state income tax.

Of course they would still pay federal and local tax for those.

I seriously can not believe there are fans who watched this team give up tying/late game losing goals again and again and again and again for 2+ years would have an issue with a slight overpayment for this kind of player. My only logical conclusion is that there is no actual, realistic cap situation that would make them happy. They want all super-talented rookies (acquired picks for Old Man Chytil!) on entry-level deals and then sign the 6 or 7 generational talents you've amassed (because that totally happens) over the next couple years.

Its not like that at all, trading a 7th pick for Goodrow and signing him to league value isn't the same as moving Kravtsov for a guy who can't play hockey. Give me an example of a player we could have as good as Goodrow for less money.

if that is the case than what is happening with strome and/or chytil? i highly doubt their vision to adjust this roster into a playoff team was to force chytil into a 2c role and slot goodrow as the 3c. i think goodrow is here to either take blackwells spot as the player on panarins wing or he is here to add an element to the 3rd line. there is no way we are going into this year with laf and kk on the 3rd line and I am very skeptical that they are relying on chytil to take the 2c role for this season simply on a projection when the goal is obviously to make the playoffs. that is a great way to get 20 games into a season and have to make a panic trade if it doesnt work out

Maybe we aren't done making moves? For example ,Eichel and Zib down the middle with Goodrow as 3c doesnt seem too bad to me. We are gonna have to let the offseason play out to see the vision of this team.

I agree, but I just think goodrow is a guy who is here to cover an expanded role when needed (injuries, slumping team, etc) as opposed to planning on him being your 3c.

Rangers acquired Dorsett in a trade involving Gaborik
The acquired Brian Boyle by trading a 3rd round pick
They got Prust in a trade involving Kotalik and Higgins
They got Dom Moore and Pouliot in free agency
Hagelin was a draft pick

Who would you have targeted this offseason and for how much?

Maybe or he's insurance for 3rd line rw when we move Buch and say Strome or Chytil for a center? I'm willing to let this play out and see where all the pieces fit. Btw, i dont see Buch on this team opening day.

agreed, and I am going to be said to see buch gone, but his fate was sealed when the lottery balls landed as they did.

Missing the point. 6 years AND 3.6M is the issue. 6 years? OK. Lower AAV. 3.6M? OK. Lower term.

Giving both is the issue; Maybe Drury didn't have the nerve to slow play it. Or maybe it's Sather overpaying for what he wants

Am very interested to see how the contract is structured, specifically in a way that makes a buyout more palatable in the second half.

Excited for the player and mentality without a doubt. Am not thrown by the numbers or years

Well said. The overreactions in this thread are absurd.

I really hope Goodrow can somehow teach and otherwise improve the faceoffs of all of our centers.

has he even played center? I know he was 50% at the faceoff and took 324 faceoffs so I guess he is a center. i thought he played wing

although 50% is not great at faceoffs in the NHL, he would lead the Rangers.

Mika needs to be better as does Strome, since they are both centers. you would think they would be better at this

I think the buyout is the same. It's spread evenly for cap purposes. Frontloading allows them to move the contract easier, not buy it out.
