There’s a point in there where the guy from Carolina thinks he’s in the year 3000 and it’s amazing and Goodrow could have put him to sleep but he holds back. Good stuff.
“let’s get tougher”
“NOT LIKE THAT”
Just to confirm, the Rangers cannot technically sign Goodrow until after the expansion draft, right?
Basically this. Goodrow is exactly what we need. We're talking about 3.6m a year, and everyone is freaking out because "it's more than 3m".
Am I thrilled? Meh. I was thrilled when we acquired his rights for a 7th. The contract is not great but it's not the type of contract I lose sleep over.
The Kreider contract is worse.
This kind of got lost in the shuffle for me - what’s the deal with Goodrow being exposed?
Could Seattle select him or would Drury have to make a deal to hold onto him?
not even sore why the UFAs are listed
It’s not like Seattle takes them and they are theirs they just get negotiating rights till ufa day
This happened with Richter and the Predators. Nashville actually took him as a FA but he ended up re-signing with the Rangers. This kind of got lost in the shuffle for me - what’s the deal with Goodrow being exposed?

As to the "if you're already planning to get out of it the day you sign it, it's a bad deal" mantra, that sounds snappy and all, and for a while I believed it too. But the fact of the matter is it's simply not true. In fact, over the last decade what we've learned from the teams that have won it all is that the opposite is the case: you need to be willing to spend to, and above, the cap to get/retain the guys you need and then get clever about making it work.
No, that's not true. Seattle has 72 hours to negotiate with the pending UFAs. If they agree to a contract, that player counts as the expansion draft selection for that team. If they don't, they pick someone off the exposed list
That's why there's a 4-day gap between the lists being finalized the picks being announced.
yea I get that but so many are worried about losing a ufa. No one protected a ufa cause that’s silly

Agreed. Some people play too many video games. Goodrow is the epitome of what we need, was a key role player in back to back Cups, and was going to UFA where multiple teams were rumored to be ready to offer him a similar deal. He's overpaid by probably $500k or so but we're talking about $3.6M. That's like 4.5% of the cap. Once the freeze lifts it will be even less and if they were smart and frontloaded the salary, it's probably an easy contract to move in the later years.Basically this. So he can be a punching bag, nice. Where are all his hits? This guys highlights are no more impressive than Tanner Glass. Buchnevich is more of a physical deterrent than this guy, Buch turns psycho and cross checks guys so hard their helmets fly off or cross checks them right in the face while he stares into their soul. Goodrow is garbage and his analytics are awful too so I’m confused why the stats nerds are the ones defending this scrub lol
I thought it was Nashville who selected him. This happened with Richter and the bluejackets. The bluejackets actually took him as a FA but he ended up re-signing with the Rangers.
Dom Lunchchicken said it was one of the worst contracts he has ever seen, and he's king of the stat nerds. Seeing him stroke out about it actually reassured me the deal would be okay.So he can be a punching bag, nice. Where are all his hits? This guys highlights are no more impressive than Tanner Glass. One thing maybe worth considering in the context of all this cap angst (and that likely HAS been considered by management) is that three years from now there's every expectation that the cap may be raised significantly as a byproduct of the recent massive TV deals.
