This contract is way above what anyone expected. Way above it. Any suggestion otherwise is lying. (Other than in the last 24 hours)

Go back and look at the roster building threads from May/June.

Tons and tons of people wanted Goodrow. Every single person had him somewhere around 3 years, 2.5m. Every one.

But if you're on here saying this is what everyone expected all along, you're lying to yourself. Because NO ONE had him penciled in for close to this amount. One poster suggested banning Carp b/c suggest 6 years x 4m, and everyone else called Vince a clown for similar predictions.

He suggested 4.5m for 5. I wasn’t wrong in saying he was misinformed.

Why would he be on Panarin’s line? Why would you “Uncle Leo” Panarin like that?
I would say he is a much much better player than uncle Leo. We should have kept Fast yes but Goodrow could be a good fit on Panarins line.

I don't think there is anything that Goodrow brings, aside from being another body in the lineup, that can be argued as a contributing cause to trading Buch.

If Buch's price tag is too high, then that would be unfortunate and it could make sense to move him. But Goodrow doesn't do anything that helps replace him; again, aside from being another body two or three lines farther down the lineup.
People are saying he’s good defensively when Buchnevich analytics are literally Selke level. People seem to have no clue how good Buchnevich is. I might put together something to show it. There’s a funny video of a Scouching livestream where I asked him if he thinks Buchnevich had emerged as one of the best defensive players in the NHL and he was laughing out loud saying “I don’t know about that” while pulling up his charts and then said “…but that’s not too far off” and was shocked lmao

BUCH HAD THE BEST GA ON THE PK OF ANY FORWARD IN THE NHL. SECOND IN TJE LEAGUE ONLY TO VICTOR HEDMAN.

I don’t think he’s really trolling, feel like just sharing his first hand experience with awful contracts. Those same 4 year 12 million contracts for Beagle and Roussel are hideous.

Didn't sound like that to me. It's not really constructive in any way anyway. Maybe if he shared with Drury.

Not arguing he should be Buch's replacement. Kakko/Kravtsov natural RW's should be his replacement. and if in 1/2/3 years time they aren't capable then we have other issues to deal with. I think Goodrow brings a lot. Yes probably overpaid by 400 k or so and a year or two but lets not say he can't bring anything. He was on probably the most effective line in hockey over the last two years in the playoffs. He's not 32 years old. He should still have 4-5 years of decent hockey left.
This isn't a great move but not an albatross like some people are saying. It's probably a C to C plus move.

Goodrow was fourth on Tampa TOI among forwards during the playoffs. That’s not a fourth line profile.

This is the first step in building an “indentity” line. More to come
Probably the most effective line in hockey over the last two years in the playoffs. They don't have that line they are toast vs the islanders.

If they trade Buchnevich it's because they don't want to pay him when they have other younger wings who they anticipate taking over. I don't know why you're insisting that this is a "choosing Goodrow over Buchnevich" situation. Drury already identified Goodrow as a candidate to play center. He's not here to displace Buchnevich. They could and may keep both. And they may have traded Buchnevich even if they hadn't acquired Goodrow.

I agree, yeah. I may have misinterpreted your last post.

As long as we haven't given him a highly restrictive NTC or a NMC, I don't think this is a "disaster" of a signing. It's bad, but it's not crippling; and Goodrow does bring some of the elements that we were desperately missing this season. He could turn out to be a perfect fit for us.

I just also think Buch brings those elements, and was our only top9 guy that had them consistently this year.

Can't wait to deal with a cap crunch for Laf or Kakko's payday because we had to overpay for an energy guy with RINGZ. Fantastic.
did you just start watching the NHL today?

basically no NHL GM actually pays for these deals. they're all friends. they all bail each other out.
