You don't need to win a lottery to get a high end talent, Zegras went 8th.

And yeah, that is the point I've made many times.... for us to be that elite team, we need Laf and Kakko and Chytil to reach that elite status. If they did so quickly, we would essentially be there now. Since they haven't, we are flirting with a scenario where by time they get there Kreider, Panarin, etc, may not be elite anymore.

Should have continued to have patience when the kids weren't instant stars.

You would have lost your shit as a Kings fan in the 2010's.

We better get the Jeannot package for Goodrow.

The object is to win Cups, and I'm expressing what the better approach to doing that is by my estimation.
I seriously doubt that. That was an overpayment and Goodrow is 5 years older and makes 3.6 mil for the next 4 years after this year. He will be able to get something for him but not to that degree and to expect a return like that is ridiculous.

Kane is going to be their top priority, followed closely by the Kids. They'll make it work. Theres still lots of uncertainty with the cap situation league wide, I dont think we can rule anything out or in until the season is over. I'm going to just enjoy the ride until then.

Signing Kane and letting a kid walk like Miller would be wrong. So wrong. I'm fine with Kane as a rental.

He's not the top priority this offseason in my opinion. If they could get it done without losing our future, then sure.

Let's just enjoy the rest of this ride guys.

So no, you can't. Ok.

I'm not interested in trying. It's not my job to make your points for you. I'm arguing MY arguments; you are attempting to put words in my mouth.

If you would like to try to demontrate that the Rangers have the most talented forward core in the league right this second have at it. Doesn't really change what I'm saying.

I think at least some of the kids would need to take another big step for us to be favorites over, say, Boston.

Some people are simply incapable of doing that. Give up a pick and the world is ending.

You told me you could think of a handful of teams with a better forward group, top to bottom. than the Rangers. But it's not your just to make the point for me?

Your argument is the Rangers don't have enough 'elite' talent to win. I gave you a list of elite and almost elite players already here. How many elite players does one need to win a Stanley Cup, homie?

Maybe, but I'll tell you that it doesn't appear they parted with any high end prospects or first round picks in their lead up to their 2014 Cup win, and the only trade of substance in 2012 leading up to THAT Cup win was for Jeff Carter, who was 27 and went on to play like 8 more years for them, so again... not a rental.

On the picks- to be honest, I was hoping we'd deal older prospects like Jones and Robertson instead of actual picks, but maybe those guys just don't have the value that a draft pick has to a rebuilding franchise.

I hope they make the best of those two assets, whether it be trading them for picks at the draft or giving both a real shot again in camp next season.
I see it the other way. I think Drury knows he needs cheap depth the next two years and Jones and Robertson can both potentially provide that. Those picks won’t.

Mas has been consistent and clear that his opinion is that this current core isn't a cup competitor.

He's not arguing from a position of bad faith, he's just more on the trigger shy side of the spectrum when it comes to win-now policies.

I'd like us ideally to still be competitive for a good 10-15 year period. Let's not waste Adam Fox's career.

We'll have to wait to see how Kane plays and what the cap situation actually looks like when we get there.

It won't be Miller. If a lot of dominoes fell that we can't predict now, it would be Chytil first, and as I've mentioned before, center is where we have a bit of a surplus.

You told me you could think of a handful of teams with a better forward group, top to bottom.

No I didn't.

I said I could think of a handful of better TEAMS as of this moment.

I'm not really interested in some arbitrary discussion of forward group rankings.

I do not think these trades have made us the prohibitive favorite as of this moment. We're in the mix. We have a chance.

I think if Kakko or Lafreniere started playing like a 90 point player my opinion on that might change.

They wont lose either guy

The Rangers can hang/beat any team in the league at this point. Top to bottom their roster is comparable/better than anyone’s. You can make an argument that the Bruins might be a smidge better but I’ll throw out there that they’ve got an old team and injuries and fatigue will play a part in their story if other teams can stretch them.

The East is a gauntlet and the Rangers are right there

Not sure this opinion would be mainstream outside a Rangers' forum.

I agree we can beat anyone, but like last year, I don't think we are good enough to run through the East in it's entirety. We'll see.

One of Krieder and Trouba will be traded eventually to recoup those assets. Goodrow might too. So far we haven’t gone down the path of not making our first pick until the 3rd/4th round for multiple years in a row path. Not worried yet. Looking forward to the ride.

No prohibitive favorite at all at this point. Two out of the 6 best teams are guaranteed a ticket home in the first round and I think any of them would be favored against any team in the West. Tough sledding on this coast.

Feels like we are getting ahead of ourselves about the off season and if Kane can be extended or not.

Would just enjoy the rest of the season and what will hopefully be a deep playoff run , that yields us the ultimate prize. Then can worry about things in the summer.

Kane has yet to even play a single game for us.

Vegas odds have us as 5th most favored to win the Cup. That’s pretty mainstream.

I'd probably say Boston. That doesn't mean they are unbeatable.

They've kinda ground us down so far this season though.

We both won't like it but it will probably be Kreider first. LW logjam and they'd be giving him a chance to have full say in where he goes. Lots will happen before now and then though.

But you said Boston is the only team who has a better roster than us... that would be 2nd?

I would probably agree we are 5th-6th.

I will also say, I do not like the New Jersey matchup for us in the first round.

They traded Schenn (a former 5OA) and Wayne Simmons for Mike Richards + a 2nd.

Even leading up to those years, you would have been apoplectic when they traded Patrick O'Sullivan+ for Justin Williams.

They burned a pair of 2nds for a washed Regher.

No one is talking about rentals here (at least I'm not.) LA was NOT shy about moving young bodies for established vets. They didn't just sit back and accumulate assets, they added probably earlier than most people would think they should have.
