They traded Schenn (a former 5OA) and Wayne Simmons for Mike Richards + a 2nd.

Even leading up to those years, you would have been apoplectic when they traded Patrick O'Sullivan+ for Justin Williams.

They burned a pair of 2nds for a washed Regher.

No one is talking about rentals here (at least I'm not.) LA was NOT shy about moving young bodies for established vets. They didn't just sit back and accumulate assets, they added probably earlier than most people would think they should have.

But you are citing things like trading for 27 year old Jeff Carter and 26 year old Mike Richards and both of those players played for the Kings for YEARS. None of those trades were at the deadline. None of those trades were for firsts. I don't really recall what level prospect Braden Schenn was considered when they moved him, but these trades were for young, long term pieces, and I've never really been opposed to that.

The Rangers can't make those trades now though because they have no cap room.

But you said Boston is the only team who has a better roster than us... that would be 2nd?

I would probably agree we are 5th-6th.

I will also say, I do not like the New Jersey matchup for us in the first round.

You’re conflating Vegas odds with what I think of everyone’s roster up and down.

Vegas odds were to refute that it’s not a mainstream idea that we’ve got a good chance to win the Cup in the eyes of non ranger fans. We do.

Roster - I’d stack stack this team up against anyone. And, no, Jersey doesn’t scare me because the ice tightens considerably in the playoffs. Hughes’ stats will suffer tremendously PLUS that team has next to no playoff experience.

My mind and heart tell me Patrick Kane is going to tear it up here. He's built for Broadway, the big stage, and pressure.

but somehow I'm worried. We're too stacked. Always thinking what's going to go wrong.

Jersey is like Florida last year. All their offense is off the rush. They are a good and feisty team and everyone is worried about how we match up with them, but how are they going to match up with us? That defense is going to shut down the most skilled top 9 in the NHL? Marino & Smitty probably still have PTSD from last year. Vanacek too is a nice story but was also benched with a 4.50 GAA for Washington last year in their series.

I'm going to need to see them play playoff hockey before I believe they can beat us.

Not sure this opinion would be mainstream outside a Rangers' forum.

I agree we can beat anyone, but like last year, I don't think we are good enough to run through the East in it's entirety. We'll see.
We are a contender but I don't think we are the favorite. Boston has earned that title but they still have to play the games. I honestly think any one of NYR, Boston, Tampa, NJD, Toronto, and Carolina can come out of the east. They are all very good teams. A lot will be determined by injuries, goaltending, and just plain puck luck. We gave ourselves a chance though in the East arms race and didn't give up much doing it aside from a few picks that won't come into play for another 3-4 years.

These are the type of draft picks people are shedding tears over right now. They were more valuable to a contender before they were ever drafted.

You can see how Toronto and Tampa are loading up to beat the Bruins in the trenches. A lot of Boston's success has been based on Ullmark's unreal season because they are a very similar squad to last year. I also don't think Ive ever seen depth on the back end like the Bruins have, they are rotating 7 top 4 defenseman lol. It's going to be extremely tough for anyone to beat them, but we certainly have the firepower. I'm just hoping someone else takes them out first.

I thought Kreider but waiving is never a guarantee.

Kreider is such a saint he'd probably sacrifice himself for the good of the organization. My personal favorite cap strategy is winning the whole damn thing now so no one cares what the team looks like next year. It's foolproof!

What I was saying was not mainstream was the idea that the Rangers have a better roster than anyone from top to bottom with the exception of maybe Boston being a smidge better.

I don't think most other NHL fans would agree with that.

5th-6th sounds right to me.

If Lafreniere starts playing like Huberdeau and Kakko starts playing like Barkov I would change my opinion.

Maybe Ullmark comes back to earth a little. Man, the playoffs in the east are going to be a serious bloodbath.

I mean if we look at the trade record since Drury took over, there really is only one botch deal at this point. It was a big one and it involved a fan favorite, but even this trade here I think he handled really well. The conditions and the fact that the pick gets moved back are really good for us. I don't think the kane is the right player for this team right now, but nobody can suggest that he hasn't responsibly tried to reinforce the roster for the playoff runs.

Personally I am not worried about who WE would have drafted with those picks but I think it's important to remember picks nowadays are resources teams like us need to trade for players like Kane/Tarasenko/Copp etc or unload money to teams like Arizona who will take a portion or all of a players salary when you're up against the cap.

I think overall he has done well and not traded away the likes of Othmann, Cuylle, Sykora...
The Nemeth signing sucked balls tho cost us 2 2nd's and almost a playoff series lol

Based on what?

My own reading of the room of the rest of NHL fans. What I said was "Not sure this opinion would be mainstream outside a Rangers' forum."

Nothing scientific. I just doubt this opinion is shared league wide. Which is another way of saying I think we are being a tad optimistic.

Ideally if we knew we were getting Kane, we would have gotten a RO'R grinder type.

Not giving up an entire draft class for Jeannot.

Maybe Lafferty and McCabe would have been the trade, still would have cost us a 1st and 2nd. I really like Mikkola though..

The Devils fans are coping poorly with this deal. Thread comments.

I'm circling calendars to watch NJ play the Craps, Piles and TB.

Hopefully Tom Wilson doesn't ragdoll anyone
Or the Piles dont cross check anyone
