I was 100% against trading for Kane a month ago.

He forced his way onto the team at a price you can't pass up.

I am 100% for Patrick Kane at this price.

Kane has turned his game up a couple of notches over the last month.

I can't wait for the next game.

The price for retention is not a 3rd.

The price is whatever the market will bear, unless you think Drury didn’t do his job seeking out better offers. Demand for retention is high this year given the post-pandemic cap situation most contending teams are facing. I suspect the earlier deals got better retention prices and now that the arms race is escalating, retention prices shot up.

I don’t like it either (and we can hope a later round pick is coming back once the full deal is announced) but I wouldn’t be surprised if the next wave of deals command similar prices (3rd/4th rounders).

I just refuse to tow the company line that trading away firsts over and over again is good. It isn't.

Drury can recoup picks, he did it just this year with Lundkvist. I was indifferent to them getting Kane but with every team in the East loading up and the cost of getting him, it's a no brainer. They need to win before deciding on Igor's next contract and while they're still getting very good production from the vets. If it don't work, move those guys (for picks) and turn the keys over to Laff and co. And they still have players like Cuylie, Othmann, Sykora and Robertson in the system. This team is stacked. Enjoy the ride.

That's obvious but I doubt their ask before that trade happened was ludicrous.

In the end it probably cost the same amount but we also got Tank and Mikkola in the deal.

others have mentioned it but us effectively choosing Tara over Kane resulted in Kane essentially forcing the Hawks to take peanuts for him.
