He didn't miss that many, but what he missed was with an "upper body injury". When he came back his game was hesitant and just not the same.

I remember Gettinger getting knocked out. Despite being big, he's not really a fighter. Like Boyle.

I would say of Gettinger he doesn't really like to fight but he does have a clue. He seriously laid a licking on Nathan Perrott's kid late in 17-18. That was a fight that Gettinger didn't want either. The Perrott's are for real bad asses but Andrew Perrott is a teenager---Chris Breen ain't. Gettinger throws hard and accurate. He even caught Breen with a couple.

Austin Watson didn't fight hardly at all in juniors--he enhanced his chances with Nashville by adding that element to his game. It ain't fun but the more elements you bring the better your chances. Be a defensive forward that knocks in 10 goals--20-25 points a year and a reliable penalty killer--be around when the bad shit happens. It's a real role you have then---you have a bunch of things you do for your team.

Is Robertson still with the team because of his play? I thought I read he had tweaked his groin. If so they might just be keeping him with the team doctors for a couple days to see if he can get in one of the pre-season games before they send him back.
I was going to say the same thing. I read this morning he tweaked his groin and is Day-to-Day. That probably explains why he's still in camp. Assuming he's going to be sent back to Junior when healthy.

Did anyone else feel their excitement deflate when reading the name Mason geersten.

It just made me go "oh... Lias is against bums."

To clarify I bet he is doing well against legit competition and I've been a fairly vocal lias supporter but I couldn't help my automatic reaction
Yea. Kinda like seeing an amazing stat line in the CHL from your prospect and then remembering....he is an overager

Gorts was sick of K27 complaining about too many guys in camp.

Oh you know it was coming! I hated how long we’d sit on guys that had no shot of making the team in camp under AV and Quinn. Let’s get down to business!

Having said that leedhal still there? That’s silly. Fontaine too. Zero shot.

Robertson is still there because he tweaked his groin. But I expect him to stay for a bit for the experience.

But maybe Kakko picked number 45? The same way Reunanen picked 51 and Kravtsov picked 74.

Maybe, but does anyone know if he actually did or did not? It seems like the next course of action is for someone, alluded to be Kakko, to switch to 24. Why are we, the boards in general, still having this stupid number argument?

Guys like Fontaine and Leedahl are helpful because they play hard and help set the pace. It's good to have guys like that in camp to counteract some of the vets that take things easy. Guys like Geertsen, too, though I think he's around more just for his fists when the games start.

Exactly, and they're perfect fillers for the bottom-6 so we aren't dressing our regulars every single preseason game. These kids are still fighting for better standings in their AHL spots, so it's still very meaningful to them. It's the difference between dealing with the ECHL or AHL for the year.

They’ll cut down more soon enough. Fontaine has seen action the past 2 preseasons, he’ll get in a few more this year. I don’t need to see a smaller camp group until around game 4.

Why are people so sure he is switching to number 24?

One argument why 45 just seems like a random number that got assigned rather than what Kakko chose is that in Finland the number is associated with Sami Vatanen. Not that players can't have same numbers, but 45 is quite rare.
I personally dislike 45 too, but obviously it doesn't really matter, one gets used to things.

Yeah I'm sure they want him to get a game in so they're hoping he's good to go for one of the first couple before they send him back down. Really high on the kid but he'd have to really put on a performance to earn a spot out of camp.

TOO early to tell who’s going to get that LD spot . Hajek , Ruenanen , Lindgren and Rykov if healthy

Anyone else think they really like Crawley. Can he play RD?

DeAngelo needs to sign though or Smith may play

wait you were serious? you have a leedahl jersey? all joking aside you might have a problem...when you get to NY there might be an intervention waiting for you LOL

i've got no issue with the roster size at this point...there are way too many preseason games so you need 2 squads to split games. then when you get to the last 2 games you should have as close to the real lineup as possible...right now you could trim a few more guys and still field 2 lineups but with haley & brickley on PTOs and rykov, robertson and day hurt/recovering from injuries there really aren't many extras...

but IMO the real issue isn't the overall roster, it is the line combos/pairings that are used. the nhl players should only be playing with other nhl players (or at least the guys with a shot to make the team)...if panarin-zibanejad-buchnevich are playing together and developing chemistry it doesn't matter who the other 3 lines are that night. but if mika is centering brickley and newell than thats a waste of time....with the split squads you should be looking at 2 potential real lines and 2 filler lines for each grouping.

So Kravtsov actually had 3 assists in the scrimmage on 4 goals heck of a performance. He’s just sneaky good. Did same thing in Traverse City.

Huska didn’t get beat keanes goal (assisted by Chytil) was on McCollum.
And Shesterkin gave up 2 goals, not 4. The other 2 were against Broussard. First one after making a great save on a back door play and nobody clearing the rebound out. Second on a point shot through traffic.

Whew. People were ready to write Igor off after a single bad game in Traverse City and a scrimmage. This should buy us another day at least.

Not writing Shesterkin off but it's hard not to have a reaction to the fact he's been outplayed by the guy who was backup at UConn last year.
