Damn, feels like camp just started and they are already making cuts. See ya dudes

training camp is now only like 3 days long and then preseason games start...they cut down the numbers to go down to 2 groups. those groups will likely alternate preseason games early on.

Really bad to get sent down that quick when a turd like Dawson Leedahl is still around in camp.

Super disappointed about Meskanen. I wouldn't be surprised to see he and the team mutually agree to terminate his contract.

I'm sure Leedahl would like to be a better player.....calling him a 'turd' is pretty harsh.

Meskanen like Gropp was only okay last year. I think expectations were higher for him. He put up about the same numbers as Gettinger last year but Gettinger is younger and I think the Rangers have some hope for him as a bottom 6'er and penalty killer. His size and long reach plus he skates pretty well.

It is harsh. I give him credit, he's a high-effort guy with a motor. Which is probably why he's still around. He's just extremely limited otherwise.

Meskanen was scoring at a very good pace last year until he was injured. He didn't really recover. I'd be surprised if he wanted to potentially spend a full year in Hartford when he could probably go be an impact player in the SHL or Liiga.

Center is my natural position, so I’d like to fight for it, for a spot, and try to earn that spot and play second center … play more minutes than last year and be an important (part of) the team,” Chytil said Sunday at training camp.

There has been a little debate here on Chytil's position. Center. Wing. Some people say Chytil's natural portion is wing. Straight from the horse's mouth.

He also struck up a friendship with Kravtsov at development camp in the summer of 2018 and they texted throughout all of last season. Chytil is close with Andersson, his fellow first-rounder from ’17, and with countryman Libor Hajek, among others. His polite way and his quick smile makes him a popular teammate.

3. Kaapo Kakko, RW, 18 (New York Rangers — 2nd overall, 2019)
Dom’s ranking: 173. Kaapo Kakko, RW, NYR: 82GP, 24-27-51, 186SOG, 18PPP, 38BLK, -2
Kakko is the safest of the top-three players here from a fantasy perspective. For that reason alone, I wouldn’t balk if you were to take him ahead of both Hughes and Makar. The Rangers are in a true rebuild (in a way that the other two franchises aren’t) and that means that Kakko is likely to get a longer leash out of the gate. He’s also built for the NHL game from a physical standpoint in a way that both of the above two players are not, he’s the most likely of the trio to be a volume shooter (though that’s not really reflected in Dom’s projections), in my opinion. There are good odds he wins the Calder this season.

7. Vitali Kravtsov, RW/LW, 19 (New York Rangers — 9th overall, 2018)
Kravtsov is going to play for the Rangers this season. After driving his line in the KHL last year, he’s probably going to adjust fairly quickly and a stint in the AHL likely isn’t in the cards for him. All of those things bode well for him to have a good season. The biggest thing standing in his way from turning a good year into a contender-for-the-Calder year are two things:
  1. Can he work his way onto the top power play given the infusion of talent (Panarin and Kakko chief among them) alongside established offensive weapons like Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad?
  2. Will he be lucky enough to be given an extended stretch at right wing (he shoots left but he has played on the right wing for most of his career) alongside Zibanejad and Panarin?
I think the answer to both of those questions is no, at least for now. There’s a chance that Kravtsov hits the rookie season jackpot if things fall into place for him though.

9. Adam Fox, RHD, 21 (New York Rangers — 66th overall, 2016)
If you follow my work, you’ll know by now that I’m a really big fan of Fox and his upside. He’s going to be a star. From a Calder Trophy race perspective, he’s likely going to be overshadowed by Kakko or Kravstov (or both) and that will make his path to a nomination tough even if he has a big year. From a fantasy perspective, that’s irrelevant. And if there’s one thing Fox does well, it’s create offence. Plus, if you’re not in a keeper league he’s also going to fly under the radar and be available in later rounds more so than a lot of the other, bigger names on this list. Take the plunge.

Meskanen didn't miss that many games though. He played 70 out of 76. Gettinger played 64--he got knocked out and almost certainly concussed by Chris Breen--a very big and very tough AHL vet just before Xmas and it took him a while to put his game back together. That was Gettinger's only fight of a year and it's not that I mind him doing it but he tried to trade with this guy and that was a bad idea. Either pick his opponents better or learn to defend better.

I think Leedahl sees a game if for no other reason than the team needs someone in the line-up to drop the gloves

Is Robertson still with the team because of his play? I thought I read he had tweaked his groin. If so they might just be keeping him with the team doctors for a couple days to see if he can get in one of the pre-season games before they send him back.

He didn't miss that many, but what he missed was with an "upper body injury". When he came back his game was hesitant and just not the same.

I remember Gettinger getting knocked out. Despite being big, he's not really a fighter. Like Boyle.

I'm thinking Gettinger probably isn't ready for full time NHL duty yet but I can see a future for him as a bottom 6 player. Contributing on the score sheet is a good thing--but being dependable defensively and becoming a good penalty killer will be the thing that gets him an NHL career. He's going to be a bottom 6 forward if he does that. Good skater---love the size and reach--Brian Boyle is someone I think as a comparable too.

I can see all of Hajek, Lindgren, Rykov and Reunanen becoming NHL defensemen. Of the lot I think Tarmo has the most offensive ability but I also think the others are stronger than he is defensively. So for me it's a we'll see. As far as this year goes....I like them all--whoever plays best in preseason. That's 4 really really good LD prospects and we still have K'Andre Miller, Matthew Robertson and Zac Jones in the tank. Our depth at the LD position is f***ing ridiculous and then there's Ragnarsson, Sjalin, Day and Crawley as well. Because of that glut we need at least one and maybe two of these guys playing regularly in the NHL ASAP. We've got some sorting out to do and at least one of those 4 vying for a spot this year is probably going to get moved. We're not going to have enough spots including in Hartford for them all. Rangers should also think seriously about buying out both Staal and Smith next summer.

Fighting’s not Gettinger’s game. I don’t know what sparked that’s scrap but he didn’t get KO’d. Went down to a knee and went off under his own power. Could’ve been concussed or jaw injury. Was caught on the side of his face with the punch.

Don’t need him to scrap, just a big bottom 6er that can skate and cover ground with that wingspan.
