I'm not seeing the reason for this huge backlash of Strome as 2C. It's not ideal but this team isn't fully constructed yet. This type of stuff is going to happen. Also this doesn't mean a change won't occur 2 months into the season if one of the kids proves themselves or a trade is made

It's easier to confront Strome's deficiencies as a #2 center, then confront that none of the kids are particularly close to earning it

A few thoughts:

1. As much as I’m happy to see Panarin (and Trouba) adding skills and depth to our PP units, I also welcome very much what seems to be a MUCH improved PK. Btw, did you notice that Fast has been pushed to the 3rd PK unit with Lemme (after Ziba/Lias and Names/Strome)and he still might have some competition in Howden.

2. Poster note improved skating and overall quickness by Andersson but based on what I’ve seen in preseason, I will take a step further - the game itself is no longer too fast for him. He’s figuring out where he needs to be which last season was as much of a problem for him as it was getting there. There should be no question that he outplayed Howden for 3C spot.

3. I want to ask - how many twenty year old regular 2C are out there in the whole NHL? There seems to be too much frustration that Chytil couldn’t earn that spot from the get go. As I mentioned earlier in the offseason if he were to capture it we’d have a center with projections of being a better #1C and earlier than Zibanejad is. I’m not surprised by Chytil’s struggles and continue to stay patient. We will see where he’s at midpoint and toward the end of the season.

I think we will see this:

Panarin - Zinbad - Buch
Kreider - Strome - K2
Names - Lias - Kravtsov/Chytil
Lemieux - Howden - Fast

One of Nieves/McKegg/Haley as #13

So when will they announce Haley to be signed because he is still on a PTO? I dont want him. Rather have another Lemieux Tkachuk type. Someone can play and have that nasty side. I'd rather trade for Kyle Clifford UFA at seasons end.

Kravtsov 100% starting the year in the A unless unforeseen injuries happen. McKegg will be the 13th forward interchanged with Chytil/Andersson based on the opponent

Panarin-Zib-Buch
Kreider-Strome-Kakko
Lemieux-Andersson-Chytil
Fast-Howden-Namestnikov

Is what I'd roll

It still blows if Chytil get sent down - that means 0 progression over the summer and he started slow in pre season.

What has Strome done to earn 2C?
Been underwhelming for so long that people have lower expectations for him than they have for 20 year old kids.

Seriously. If a kid isn't the second best center we have, that’s a bummer but it’s fine. But Strome has done nothing to suggest he’s the second best center we have.

Strome will be fine I fully expect Kreider and Kakko to up their games when the season starts

I like the Lemieux Lias Namestnikov line following them. What a pain in the ass that line is.

I then have Smith Howden Fast (although I’d prefer McKegg Fast is a shell of his former self.)

There’s something to be said about dressing smith to kill penalties. Not exactly a strong suit of 77 or 23

He's not part of the long term picture. If they're going to put someone in a spot where they are a bit out of their depth, better it be the guy who won't likely be here in a year or two anyway. He's basically the sacrificial lamb that allows them to properly develop Lias and Chytil.

Lias deserves to play with Kreider and Kakko more than Strome does.

whatever he sucks. It’s a transition year maybe he’ll keep shooting at a stupid percentage and those two will make him look better and some sucker will want him at the deadline.

Yes, and I wouldn’t hesitate to have McKegg in place of Howden who should be joining Chytil and Kravtsov down in Hartford.

I think its a mistake to play Panarin and Zib together. I really like them as drivers on different lines besides they both are righties. I would send Chytil and Howden to Hartford let them log big minutes in key situations and hopefully put up numbers for a few months. Everytime I see Chytil on TV so far he looks frustrated. Think the lines should look like this ------ 13F, 7D and 2 goalies carry a 22 man roster

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Andersson-Kakko
Lemieux- Strome -Namestnikov
Haley/ Smith - Nieves - Fast

Skjei- Trouba
Hajek- ADA
Lindgren/ Staal - Fox

Chytil turned 20 like 2 weeks ago. Something we need to remember. He’s barely 20. He’s really young. He’s going to have his ups and downs. Right now he needs mins at center and to get his confidence back.

Some time in Hartford for Chytil might be beneficial. Get his offensive confidence up in the AHL. It's not the end of the world. I think Kravtsov is heading there too. I expect both will get a good look with the Rangers before the season is over. Right now I'm down to breaking camp with these guys:

F-Panarin, Zibanejad, Kakko, Kreider, Buchnevich, Strome, Namestnikov, Lemieux, Fast, Andersson, Howden, Nieves, McKegg.

D-Trouba, Skjei, DeAngelo, Fox, Staal, Lindgren, Hajek

F/D-Smith

G-Lundqvist, Georgiev.

We might have to cut another player (one of McKegg, Lindgren, Hajek, Smith) but this is the group I'd go with for now.

I'd sign Haley and put him in Hartford. An insurance policy if we need to bring up some muscle. I'd let Morrow walk.

I think Lemieux Andersson Names will be a great 3rd line for us. Chytil needs to go on a tear in Hartford then bring him up.
4th line I want Smith Howden Fast
