I would still have Chytil between Kreider & Kakko but it is what it is at this point. Only real thing i'd do would maybe be to send down one of Nieves or McKegg for a little extra wiggle-room capwise but that's nothing urgent.

Right, it’s scenario based for sure. Everything will be slightly off by the 1st game....

My takeaways:
  • Second line is set (Kreider - Strome - Kakko)
  • Namestnikov and Fast are competing for 4RW next to Lemieux-Andersson
  • Potential third line in the works with Kravtsov and Chytil on the wings. Centered by Howden eventually?
  • McKegg, Lettieri, Nieves, and Haley are on the chopping block.
- Yes, and was most likely outcome all along
- Neither will be scratched
- Looks a lot more like the pieces that don't fit line
- Team will have at least 2 of the 3 Gritty McGrits. Nieves is getting waived. Haley, at least in preseason, looks like he belongs.

I truly believe that if could have been done, it would have.

I still believe that Smith starts on the 4th line and is the 7 defenseman as well. Kravstov has not showed that he does not belong in the AHL to start the year. Chytil may wind up there as well.

Well I think NYR are trying to maximize the value in some pieces rather than letting them walk for crumbs. I’m pretty positive someone like Namestnikov, Strome, etc have value for some team. It’s just not met with their proposals.

I think we can take some things from the posted lines re: roster. Top 4 lines and Top 3 D pairings play tonight:

- I think Haley made it
- Obviously Fox made it
- Howden made it
- I think Quinn is trying to get Brendan Smith to give him a reason, any reason to stay up with the big club. Giving him Skjei on the 3rd pairing after Skjei had a really good game.
- Both Kravstov and Chytil are on the edge of Hartford and this is their opportunity (I like this a lot tbh)

...
quinn sees everyone in practice. he sees the understanding of the position and he sees how each center meshes with the wingers. he may have seen enough to know where he wants chytl to play.

we dont see that stuff.

it seems to me that quinn didnt need to see chytl with anyone in any games to know hes not ready.

I liked this. Don't know why it has to be continuously repeated.

I wonder if Mika is going to help make the decision of who gets sent down?

Is it unthinkable? Chytil gets sent down over Kravtsov? I dont know how I feel about that, might crush him

Mika will make the decision on who goes to the minors after he retires in 15 years when the organization brings him on staff with the qualification being "former player"

If you read the statement again, it's 'help make the decision'. The decision beings management but Mika, the captain that was promised, offering his input by pivoting both.... Thereby helping make a decision.

seems quinn agrees with me

both howden and andersson, to me at least, didnt appear that they were 2C material now either and they had chances.

however, strome- esp. the last game, looked like he belonged and looked like he is a real nhl ready center right now.

chytl is better on the wall imo. was better last season on the wall and so far, hasnt shown anything in camp to indicate hes going to be the 2C to start this season.

this isnt unexpected. it was always a stretch to think fil could be the 2C right now.
I could have said Howden is the best 2C option last week and then said it seems Quinn agrees with me since he was played there. We just don't know if this is the final lineup or not unless I missed a recent interview about it. Last I heard, Quinn said that the previous game was the closest we'd see to a final lineup in preseason. These lines can very well be more experimentation for the sake of it, especially with the weird pacing NYR have to start the season.

We don't see practice, but we do get reports on the groups and lines. Again, unless I missed something or am remembering wrong ( and please correct me if I am), Chytil practiced a single time with Kreider and Kakko immediately after Quinn said he'd like to start them together.

Strome has played over 400 NHL games and hasn't broken 35 points since 2014, which was the only season he's ever done that. Absolutely best case scenario, he inflates his stats and we can move him for more than he's logically worth. Best case with a kid in that spot is that the kid grows playing with quality players and we stabilize our top 6 for years.

Ultimately, if Chytil isn't ready for that spot, I can buy that and I guess Strome is as bad an option as any other in that case. The issue is the handling of the whole thing. If Quinn thought Chytil could take that spot, said so publicly, and then a week later doesn't even need to see Chytil in that spot to know he's not ready, that seems indicative of some issues that aren't very encouraging.

They do have value. But no team is touching them right now for how much money they are making. At the TDL? Sure, that is a possibility. Then they are not owed $4m and $3m+ respectively.

Would have nice to at least see Chytil play with BOTH Kakko and Kreider before he gave Strome that opportunity!
I don't think Haveandare is incorrect. Off the top of my head I don't think Chytil has been given that chance.
I don't understand why we were fed that that Chytil was gonna be given that second line center spot with K and K.

True True True. Absolutely no one wants a guy like Name at 4 million in todays NHL. Like you said maybe at the TDL.

Well trading them at the deadline would be maximizing the value, but that would still end NYR with a little less than $1M to play with for the entirety of the season. It’ll be difficult unless they’d rather get something minimal to regain cap space.

We’ll see....

Unfortunately there is nothing to be done. There are no deals out there

He's only around for Saturday. They'll cut him after that. A warm body to send up there. One less player who will make the team making the trip.

Haley is still here.

Really hope he doesn’t make the team

it would not surprise me if he got a contract. every team needs that Tanner Glass type lmfao

Tonight probably would have been a good time to actually put Chytil between 20 and 45. Seems like you’d want to see that at some point outside of drills and in an actual game
