Im looking online for the whole kit and its driving be bonkers! Find a good deal for an 01 Tahoe only to find out its for 5 lugs, not 6. This should be simple but its not. Might just call my guy and see what he can come up with

Hopefully fixed my dads Ranger today. Battery would die after 5-7 days of sitting. It had some aftermarket rust protection gadget hooked up to the battery, likely causing enough parasitic draw. I just snipped the fk'n thing off. Couldnt be bothered unbolting the battery terminals :) lol

Well I couldnt make this shit up if I tried. Was on my way to Home Depot (about 5kms) to pick up lumber for my privacy fence. Was just pulling into the plaza and my brake pedal went flat! Scared the shit outta me.

So I made it to Depot and parked to access the situation. Clearly leaking at the rear around the diff area. OF ALL THE DAYS TO NOT HAVE MY TRUCK BOX! I had just taken it out 30 minutes prior to make room. It had brake fluid in it.

So i debated and thought if i just had some fluid it might get me home. So looking around there was no gas station or anything automotive. Then I remembered theres a Walmart on the very far side of the plaza.

So I had a plan. I got my lumber and lol was it ever full. 10 4x4x8 posts, 64 1x6x6 fence boards and 4 1x4x8 trim pieces. I thought to myself "this might be heavy with no brakes".

Limped over to Walmart and got fluid. Went to fill it up and it showed full still. f*** now what?

Stupid me decided to drive home anyways full well knowing there was a giant downhill with my turn at the bottom. I just drove slow and left lots of space. Magically I made every light and when it came to the hill I just geared down to 2nd stood on the brake and shifted to 1st for my turn.

Made it home safe n sound. Definitely one of the dumber things ive done but boy was that a good beer when I sat down :p

Looks awesome. Still on my bucket list of things to do

Also truck goes in Friday for surgery. I found the box of brake pads i thought were new, only to stare at 3 used pads lol. Dunno what happened there. Even the used pads still have 3/8" of life left. So i dunno what happened there

I need to do a steering box on my truck (05 ram 2500) and I'm mortified.

I'm good with engines but terrible with suspension and suspension adjacent components. I've already done the shocks, steering stabilizer, tires, and alignment, but the on-center handling is still pretty rough. I'm pretty positive the steering box is just thrashed. It does have 206k after all.

I'll probably just do a cheapo one from rockauto for now, and upgrade to a red dog unit later down the road once i know what i'm doing, but yeah. I'm pretty stressed out about the job, lol.

Rock Auto is pretty good.
They aren't bad but their website looks like it was designed in 1996. I've never had a problem ordering parts from them though. Avoid the no-name China junk on Amazon, try to get OEM oe at least brand name when possible

Amazon is absolute trash for parts these days. Lots of knockoffs and aside from the fast shipping it doesn't really seem worth it to me.

Rock auto is definitely nostalgic in feel but I've never had an issue with them. Easy returns and all that too. At least you're almost probably getting a real part when you order like a Wix filter or something.

Wife borrowed my car

returned it with less then zero gas and a flat

went to put spare on ... and the wheel wouldnt come off. lug nuts came off after normal reluctance but the wheel hub itself wouldnt budge.

google said corrosion .. and offered some hacks like donkey kicking it

thank god that happened in my drive way and not on the left shoulder of I 95 at night

used a fix a flat bottle, got it to my guy .. they were able to save the tire

That’s amazing. 5 or so years back i had front brakes, rotors, calipers, lines and a master cylinder done for 4 and change and felt like i stole time from the guy. Similar deal!

Tried to help out an older guy today. Said he was 80. Came outta the beer store and noticed his hood up with smoke billowing out. Upon inspection, one of his 1" coolant lines came off cause the connector broke (plastic). Wasnt anything i could do but fill him up with coolant and tell him where my shop is. (Block away)

Im sad because there was no way to MacGyver this and the guys old. I hope he made out ok.

Im also pissed becsuse it was a Chevy. Who the f*** thought it was a good idea to put plastic parts in a coolant system going hot cold hot cold hot cold? Blows my mind

If thats what Chevy is doing now im done. I might buy one more gen of the Tahoe and thats it

I don’t think it’s just Chevy. Everyone is going to plastic, or has already done so. Think about thermostat housings, all plastic now.

I had a 97 cadillac piss coolant from where the water pump sits. I took it in expecting a heavy bill. Got a call an hour later, “it wasn’t the pump. Wasn’t even a hose. Just a flange”

Im just lost for words and faith. Im fine spending $1000 a year on repairs for my rig. Its old. The repairs at least make sense. Im expecting a fuel pump any day now and if i was smart id just change it. But to think my rig is gonna cripple me over some plastic someday....thats a problem

Yeah i hear you. It’s definitely concerning that such an integral component to keeping everything status quo is made of plastic. I guess it comes down to saving a couple bucks a car, add that up over however many thousands of cars. It’s scary.
