The PP points have been hiding that Marner hasn't been good to start the season. Auston didn't look good on his line, and now Domi isn't either. There is a common denominator there. Nylander has a bad game or two and he usually has a good game after. Marner should be looking at Nylander on consistency. His effort is always there when it needs to be.

That is true to some degree but its not a good idea to look at Nylander too long, he will go end to end on a rush, looking like an Art Ross guy, then check out mentally because he feels his job is done for the night. Nylander is a very frustrating player but the most skilled Leafs player. NHL level mangagement realize they are held hostage by his talents and they can not push him too much because he is the boss of his game and effort and that is the power superstars have over teams.

I think he gets a lot of flak based on perception. He is an effortless skater and sometimes may look like he’s not “trying”. Where as other players, skating looks like hard work, even though they are also going through the motions

No marner is the new whipping boy.
It will be nice to see him win a cup with another team like all the other players we run out of town

Matthews is too soft to lead us to a cup
Willy disappears for too many games

So it’s Mitch’s fault now Domi has not scored at all this season? Domi had Nylander to start the year, now Mitch and he’ll more than likely get Auston once he’s back or when they get a center. The common denominator is domi just hasn’t been that good this year tbh.

Domi had like 2 good games to start the year and has been trash ever since. Domi is what he is. He’s a mid level guy.

Matthews is soft lol? In the playoffs he is very physical. I can show you 3 goals that he created by forechecking the opponent, hitting the opponent (in at least on case flattening the opponent) and also passing the puck to create the goal.

Nylander is soft.... but he can play through incidental contact because of his strength and speed. NOONE is anywhere near as powder puff soft as Marner and hes 20lbs lighter than Nylander.

I can show you numerous scrums where Marner pretends he doesnt see them happening (game 3 vs FLA) tries to be the last one to skate into them (Vs Tampa), or plain just watches from a distance whilw his team is outnumbered (Vs Boston).... its disgusting.

Marner is just full of playoff warts.

- Cant produce offense
- Furthest from the net
- Does not play physical
- Turn over machine for critical gwgs against.

4 games without Matthews and 0 5v5 points for Marner... and you think that makes it better than 3 games without a point? I'm not surprised.

Let me tell you some wild Marner stats:

He has 0 5v5 points in his last 5 games

He only has a 5v5 shot in 2/5 games. In those 2 it was only 1 shot.

He only has 3 primary assists 5v5 and we are 20% done the season. Only 1 of them was an intentional pass.

Some posters think he's still worth 11 million+ and should be signed.

Just to add proper context. Players with 5 on 5 points since Matthews injury:

Timmins - 1
Benoit - 1
Reaves - 1

But yup it’s Marner’s fault yall! Obviously it’s not good but no one is scoring. 5 on 5 right now and it’s a problem.

Want to see very bad assistant captain and teammate? you thought the pulling the chute was bad?

Three Playoff videos of Marner trying to avoid coming to the aid of his linemates in scrums:

Video 1:
Marner sees Reilly hit Point and sees Kucherov jump Reilly but he continues to play hockey lol? What!?

And later when Stamkos attacks Matthews, Oreilly and Reilly rush to help, but Marner is last to reluctantly skate into the scrum and surprise suprise...ends up with no partner. Lol

Video 2:
Personal favorite of mine. Reilly gets crunched by a Panther after the game ended and his linemates pile onto the Panther. What does Marner do? He tries to skate by it lol!

Video 3:
Scrum in Bostons crease, leafs outnumbered and Marner is seen circling away from the net. Later a scrum breaks out again and Marner stays standing 35' away. Tiny Marchand decides to skate to Marner to involve in the action.

Who the f*** cares if he scrums honestly?

That’s not what Marner is paid to do. So this is just nonsense. We don’t need Marner to be in scrums. We need him to be better offensively in the playoffs it’s pretty simple.

You keep saying you’re not a hater but when you post shit like this it doesn’t help your case at all. It’s non-stop, do you work?

It’s obvious they just don’t understand the game very well.
Would anyone even see their post if you didn’t reply to it?

According to NHL.com Kucherov is the same size as Marner. Kucherov jumped Reilly after Reilly hit Point. Tiny little Marchand is in the middle of all the scrums and hunted Marner down.

NHL is a physical sport. Many players describe the Stanley Cup as the hardest trophy to win in all sports and an outright war. Marner said these exact words after last years playoff loss.

So... how does a team win the cup... if their player doesnt go to war, and plays 20 mins a game AND takes up 13% or the cap?

One question, was the stuff you posted after whistles or during game play? I personally don’t want our skilled players involved in that nonsense after the whistle.

I want Matthews and Marner to be cutting to the net during play and taking sticks to the shins and hands but being in a better spot to score. That’s logical. Marner isn’t a fighter, he isn’t a scrum guy. So it’s dumb to expect him to be after the whistle. But he’s more than capable of driving the net during play. That’s a reasonable and logical expectation.

Marner wears an "A"… What kind of example is that if the assistant captain stands by while his teammate gets jumped or crushed and just tries to skate past it? Don’t pretend this doesn’t matter, standing up for teammates is a widely discussed part of team culture.

Marner wears an A...what kind of an example is it for your team if the assistant captain has a feont row seat to his teammate getting junped or getting crushed and he literally attempts to skate by it lol.

Lmfao your logic is asinine. I honestly tried to entertain a civil conversation with you but I honestly can’t bring myself to do it.

Leadership isn’t solely defined by jumping into a scrum. The only person who gives 2 shits about any of that is you. I don’t think any of Marner’s teammates question his leadership by whether he gets into a scrum or not. He’s never done that in his life, not even in junior. That’s just not his game. He’ll get his ass kicked, and for what?

We have to pay this man what he wants. Add onto it, any discretion that he believes he is owed through any unfair treatment.

If we don't re-sign Marner and Tavares, this whole exercise is pointless.

If everyone was worried about getting hurt than nobody would be playing physical. Why is Marner allowed to not play physical to avoid injury? Why does Crosby go into scrums? Why does Mcdavid?

Versteeg said it in a recent podcast, nobody says you need to fight in a scrum, at least get in there, grab somebody or facewash someone.

Im going to take former NHL player Versteegs take on hockey over yours.

Why do you have to out Matthews and Nylander down, just to defend Marner? I've never understood why Marner fans do that.

Nylander fans start this nonsense everything in the Marner threads...maybe focus on them.

That's becoming just pathetic right here,
Marner is just leafs goal, pts leader, he just get a pts on 67% of every leafs goal since Matthews injury and you still find something to trash talk about hus game...
