Confirmed with Link: Rakell to re-sign with the Penguins (6 years, $5 million AAV)

And other sources (Rossi) are saying the opposite. And if the AAV took a dive on the four.
All the contradictory stuff makes me think both sides are just negotiating through the media. Wonder if Geno ends up signing for a reasonable 4 year deal in the end anyway and this is all just brinksmanship.

I think the odds that Geno signs a last second deal 6x4 are dramatically reduced now that his camp has informed the FO, and the public at large, that he'll be testing FA.

and I'm skeptical he had any intention of signing a realistic extension regardless. It was always push the FO for something they were never (nor should they) cave to, or see what kinda stupid offers he could get in FA.

He's 7 years younger and is body is in better condition. Even if he doesn't work out in the next few years then he's tradeable.
If he doesn’t work out, he’s tradable for scraps at that price.

Geno will be better than Rakell until he hangs them up. Giving six to him while Malkin can’t get four.. it’s just.. not vibing with me. And I really like Rakell. It feels like a bad thing happening that doesn’t need to be happening and nobody knows why it’s happening and I can’t stop crying. This feels like my parents divorce.

I wish I could get behind the change for the sake of change crusade, but the options out there aren’t great. They don’t make us better.

TBD. Honestly I wonder how we'd do if we made Blue 2C and acquired Patrick Kane or something :biglaugh:

Yeah, I believe the guy who literally just broke the Rakell deal before anyone else on what he said a few hours ago regarding what the Penguins offered Malkin.

Man ya hes seems to have some insight. If G turned down 6.1Mx4 than even I, one of the biggest "just let them all retire here" people would endorse us to completely redirect focus.

We cannot afford no 2C. For me it's
Plan A: Geno
Plan B: JT Miller
Plan C: Trocheck

Can't afford for it to get to Plan D...

Pens management knows far more on a player than anyone on a message board. I have to believe they just were trying to get Malkin at a deal that made sense based on his health, history and future physical capability. Malkin got paid well for his career and quite frankly those who post his point per game and he is still a top center is not what I see. I have been concerned over his play at times is far more spotty and his intensity is not quite as impactful. Is he a good player of course. But I can't know what his history of injuries has done to his body and physical health.

Rakell is a guy that always passes my eye test. Seems to be able to create on his own and find open ice pretty consistently. I think he's a safe bet to pace ~50 points a year for the balance of this contract. Upside to 60 points depending on PP time and the centre he gets.
