OT: Raise the Jolly Roger: New season of plundering begins

Yeah, that's gonna play.

Always a relief to just have a smooth 1st inning in a debut. This is a gut feeling, but seems like if a guy gets bad luck or bad bounces or is just a little wild, it's a bad omen that looms for many starts. Jones was completely locked in there.

Jones is being overshadowed by Skenes among Pirates fans, but without Skenes the hype for Jones would be out of this stratosphere. I honestly like Jones' secondary stuff more than Skenes' from what I've seen.

Bad throwing error by Cruz there. This team has been really sloppy in the field so far this year.

Weathers also looks extremely sharp, so any runs we can get are looking like they'll be precious.

I think we're going to need the long ball in this one.

Clutch hit for Olivares! Great AB there to wait for that pitch. Would have been a bummer not to cash in on that opportunity.

Weathers is missing his spot a bit, maybe Davis can drive one, but immediately down 0-2.

I hate these LHPs for Cruz, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like Joe leading off. He grinds out ABs and now we are reaping the benefits of Weathers missing spots. The Taylor double and run scored is something that never happens with the garbage #6-9 spots of previous year's lineups.

Jones looks Spencer Strider-ish.

A 1-2-3 or Skenes, Jones, Keller looks great. Even better if Solometo somehow makes his way up and pushes Keller to #4.

I still hate the non-Jones and Keller part of the rotation but man it's easy to feel excited about this team.
I honestly don't understand what Ortiz had to do to win a spot over Falter.
Maybe they really like him piggy-backing Falter or want to use him as a 2x/week 2-3 inning guy.

I also like Perez. He is a sound bet to bounce back, IMO. Marco makes me almost as nervous as Falter.

Suwinski is trash vs LHP but that's the kind of thing why I don't mind having him bat 9th and sliding Olivares to DH. Maybe Reynolds catches that too, but that's a real nice play.

I think they view Ortiz and Contreras relievers. I agree - I'd much rather see Ortiz than Falter.

Perez is what he is - he's fine as a back-end of the rotation guy, and it's not his fault he's 2 slots higher in this rotation than he should be.

Almost like seeing him forced to work through a rough patch there, though would have been nice to keep it at 3-1.

You can tell that he has a good deal of composure. A lot of debuts have that happen and it's a complete spiral. Now we'll see if we can add on a cushion vs the pen.
