OT: Raise the Jolly Roger: New season of plundering begins

After seeing Cruz break his leg in person last year, I am never gonna be comfortable watching plays at the plate with him.

That was great work to take advantage and add 2 runs vs a so-so pitcher. Give Jones some cushion to hopefully carve an easy path through 6. The more pitchers available for tomorrow, the better. Gotta win this one now.

Actually wonder if this inning might be it for Jones. First start of the year, pretty much nothing but good vibes for him. He's missing a decent bit more, pen is fully fresh basically. I'm sure he could go 1 more, but at the same time, there's probably no reason not to give them a new look in the 6th.

It's an interesting call, because a bloop and a blast gets the Marlins right back in the game and would really put a damper on everything. That certainly could happen vs. a reliever, but we are pretty well set up for someone to come in and handle the heart of the order, then get it to Chapman and Bednar.

Looks like he's coming back out for the 6th. Only 68 pitches - I'm fine with it.

Yeah, no problem with it either. There's no sense babying this guy. He's been on the attack all day and maybe he's had like 5 or 6 misses but otherwise he's been sharp.

I was about to type "I would have pinch hit McCutchen for Suwinski here", then Suwinski actually managed to get a single and RBI off of a lefty

Seeing both Skenes in AAA and Jones in the MLB today has made me not worried about their starting rotation. I really like Perez as a depth lefty, not a #2 but definitely as a #4, and Keller is Keller. It's really just a question of when Skenes can get up and how many games Skenes and Jones can throw this year.

If this rotation in August is Keller, Skenes, Jones, Perez and Gonzales, I'm pretty satisfied with their rotation. Swap out Gonzales for Oviedo next year and I really like their rotation.

Not much point in nitpicking with a 9-3 lead, but I guess the Pirates see Tellez as the better fielder than Joe? Seems kinda strange to me.

The only complaint I have is that this was such a nice game that I will be more patient to start complaining when Falter is pitching tomorrow.
