I think the easy lineup to trot out now that Swaggs is coming up:

1. Hayes - 3B
2. Reynolds - CF
3. Suwinksi - RF
4. Chavis - 1B
5. Vogelbach - DH
6. Swaggerty - LF
7. Marcano - 2B
8. Castillo - SS
9. Catcher

Keep an eye on Tyler Samaniego. Big, power lefty out of the pen, drafted late out of South Alabama last year by Cherington. Cherington has brought in some lefties the past 2 years, which is something I spoke about often throughout Huntington's tenure. This kid has been lights out since turning pro. How about 42 K's in just 27 innings, along with a .074 WHIP and .078 BAA. He's literally given up 7 hits in 27 innings. Recently promoted to AA, he's been perfect through 3 innings there.

Nick Garcia (3rd round pick in 2020) had a real solid outing today in Greensboro as well.

Po Chen in Florida was lights out.

Gorski continues to hit well in AA. We'll have to see how he fares in the power department after a Ruthian like 1st 7-8 weeks in NC. Like Fraizer, we need to be cautious w/these 23/24 year olds hammering lower minor pitching.

I don't really think Super 2 is an issue at this point. If you look at the list of rookies who've already played significant innings. Cruz would basically have to play every day (he won't) to slide into that status or go nuclear from day 1 and win ROTY, which is unlikely and might not matter given there are a few big names already producing in the NL.

I think Cruz is the the obvious call up at this point now, if nothing more than getting the potential of his bat/speed into the lineup.

Tyler Samaniego's high on my radar, and I think we see him this year.

I'm hopeful we throw caution to the wind and have Swaggerty leadoff today. He has the skillset for it, is locked in at the plate, and having Hayes behind him should give him the best chance to see better pitches and start on a good foot. I'm sure he will bat 6th-9th, but going with where he's consistently hit in the minors, and having both Hayes and Reynolds stay locked in at the plate, could be a recipe for getting the top of the lineup into a position to be a little bit dangerous.

I think I'd like to see us roll this out:

1. Swaggerty LF
2. Hayes 3B
3. Reynolds CF
4. Vogelbach DH
5. Chavis 1B
6. Suwinski RF
7. Marcano 2B
8. Castillo SS
9. Heineman/Perez C

It might also make some sense to let it ride with Suwinski towards the top of the order, but I think his skills are better suited for 5-6th in the order, and working Chavis in somewhere keeps the lefty/righty balance in place. With Suwinski winning the game yesterday, I'd be surprised if he's moved down in the order, but we'll see.

Another option I wouldn't hate would be to have Marcano hit 9th as a speed guy to potentially turn over the lineup, but for now I'd rather avoid that. Probably not much sense getting too worked up, since Shelton will run something today, then something pretty different on Tuesday, and so on. Hopefully Swaggerty actually gets in the starting lineup at least.

Yeah, I suppose there aren't a lot of easy ways to get to Pittsburgh from Omaha on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Hopefully he'll get a chance to pinch hit, but we always seem to wait a day anyways. In this case, it will have to be two days, since we're off tomorrow.

This would be a nice series to win and not sacrifice momentum. Gallen will be tough, but their lineup is a decent challenge to see if Thompson can keep trending in the right direction. A home series W and then taking the two game series vs. Detroit would be good momentum heading into the long road trip.

1st inning was flawless from Thompson. 2nd inning, you see when he gets a little spotty on command but works out of a jam. If he can harness that 1st inning location, you're going to get what we got in May out of him. He's definitely our 3rd best starter right now IMO.

Not much of a surprise that someone would take a flier on him. Regardless of how it plays out, I think there can't be many regrets. He's been displaced on the depth chart and there are only so many ABs to go around, even before we consider getting Cruz into games (hopefully ASAP).

Can't hit MLB pitching. You can't OPS .573 over 400+ AB's and expect to be given any more rope. The only reason he got so much IMO, is his status as a 1st round pick, and the lack of talent in previous years.

No regrets. Just didn't work out.

If WAR actually accounted for situational hitting and RISP, Reynolds would probably have negative WAR this year.

Just terrible, terrible at-bats. It has to be at least partially mental.

I know Vogelbach is having a rough time at the plate atm but he is 2nd on the team in ops+.

It is trending downwards in a substantial way and the power has evaporated. He gets one pitch on the middle half each at-bat and doesn't pull the trigger. Maddening to watch.

Stick Cruz at DH. Don't really care anymore.

Mitchell looks so relaxed as a hitter. Nice to see Thompson with a a shot for the win now.

Hopefully we get 1-2 more out of him then Crowe-Bednar to close it out.

I'll stress again that add-on runs are so important. I realize that Reynolds kinda sucks half the time now and Vogey is Vogey but getting 2 more in the eighth would be huge.

Hard to argue with Suwinski/Mitchell as the corner OF today. Obviously Swaggerty got in late but I'll take the 3-4 with a double and dinger from the guys in there.

Get Swag a start in Detroit on Tuesday.

I think at this point you might even legitimately think about starting Swaggerty in CF on Tuesday and giving Reynolds a day down. Obviously you aren't going to sit him with any regularity so it would just be a one day thing. Maybe Suwinski or Mitchell will DH.
