He's so obviously the best pitcher in the organization and would immediately be the top pitcher in the rotation. I was trying to say this in spring training, but this is even more pronounced for pitchers than it is position players. Yeah, it's just as big of a jump in competition, but if you have the pitches, control, and sequencing, then you are ready for the challenge after you play enough at AA (and in some cases before).
That said, I am fully in favor of basically babying his arm this season and playing it extra safe as you build him up. As nice as it would be to have him finish this one, I would even be fine taking him out now. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing him just stick in the pen with this role for another month or so, then let him go back for a couple starts to stretch out. At some point, we're going to try and save some service time, but whatever.
