Would have been a good flier. My caveat with these kinds of things and dumping Stratton's contract is fairly simple: if it's repurposed into extending Reynolds and then actually investing in the team, no real issue. It's not necessary to chase every flier that's out there.

(Cubs may also have had waiver priority)

Good lord has Marcano looked terrible against Gallen.

I mean, the whole team has but Marcano in particular should never be 3King in a game against a righty.

If the Buccos don't win this game, I ain't gonna be a fan anymore.

And I've been a fan since the Jimmy "Fatboy" Anderson Battlin' Bucco days. But I simply can't take it anymore.

Bad game but at least some intrigue with Beede, I guess. I was only half paying attention to the broadcast but it sounds like he's auditioning to continue stretching out as a starter? His stuff looked really sharp last night, and if I remember right, his big issue in San Francisco was control. His velocity was up and seems like it held even late into his start. Given the lack of depth, it seems like an experiment that's worth playing out (and I think the same about Oviedo, who is being stretched out starting tonight in Indy).

However, I also have to wonder if we are set to run a little too far in this direction, since the bullpen might be shaping up to be a plus. That's a big question mark still, considering health and reliever variance year to year, but if Beede has harnessed something which allows him to reliably pitch multiple innings for you, then that in itself is pretty valuable. I guess there's he caveat that with the way several teams handle pitching, him being able to give you ~4IP is already in the vicinity of a #4/5 starter, but I think it's an open question.

Also, it bears repeating that it's funny that Beede can randomly try and turn into a starter vs. MLB pitchers, yet Roansy's delicate arm needs to waste away against AAA pitching until he has magically gotten to the point that coincides with avoiding Super Two and can be called back.

Do you really want to have to pay Roasny more money just so we can win 63 games instead of 60 though?

Especially the way pitchers paid if he turns out the way we all hope he does.

It's a fair question but it's also one I'd have more patience with if I had any confidence that the money saved by cutting every corner was going to start showing up on the MLB roster at any point.

Separate from that though, I do think Roansy had more he needed to work on in MLB that is being totally wasted vs. AAA hitters. As a result, I think next year is still going to be up and down a little bit in terms of performance, which isn't out of the ordinary anyways, but I just don't like burning up developmental time because it is strategically advantageous to the team.

At the end of the day, I think these questions need to start being answered this offseason. If Reynolds is paid and we go seek supplementary MLB talent, then there's reasons that these cynical decisions are at least somewhat justifiable. There's currently potential to help boost the 2023 and especially 2024/2025 teams given how pre-arb years are going to work out.

Yeah I'm pretty stoked their angling for another year of salary control with Roansy. Would prefer not to waste it on this last teardown season we're in.

But you're right - this off-season it's time to fill a few holes via trades & the FA markets.

Looks like Termarr Johnson is getting into game action with the FCL Pirates today. Wonder how patient we'll be with him there vs. getting him to Bradenton? Flannigan moves very quickly but he's also a college guy. With Johnson's bat being advanced, I think it would make sense to get him to Bradenton this year, as it might not be out of the question to start him a bit aggressively in Greensboro next year. Would put him in a very hitter-friendly environment as well as presumably on the same team as Chandler and Solometo.

Termarr, N. Gonzales, Polanco, & Rivas playing today. Now there's a game I wish I could stream. Gotta work though.

Not too surprising -- Bradenton's OF is really crowded and Rodriguez obviously has earned more of a challenge.

Malcolm Nunez is also debuting for Altoona tonight. He's been out with a knee injury sustained a day or two before we traded for him.

Well that's certainly some good news. Yay for Endy!

Just gave up a bomb -- up and down, as you would expect in single A/early going. Didn't look like too bad of a pitch but I'm not closely watching.
