Bad game but at least some intrigue with Beede, I guess. I was only half paying attention to the broadcast but it sounds like he's auditioning to continue stretching out as a starter? His stuff looked really sharp last night, and if I remember right, his big issue in San Francisco was control. His velocity was up and seems like it held even late into his start. Given the lack of depth, it seems like an experiment that's worth playing out (and I think the same about Oviedo, who is being stretched out starting tonight in Indy).
However, I also have to wonder if we are set to run a little too far in this direction, since the bullpen might be shaping up to be a plus. That's a big question mark still, considering health and reliever variance year to year, but if Beede has harnessed something which allows him to reliably pitch multiple innings for you, then that in itself is pretty valuable. I guess there's he caveat that with the way several teams handle pitching, him being able to give you ~4IP is already in the vicinity of a #4/5 starter, but I think it's an open question.
Also, it bears repeating that it's funny that Beede can randomly try and turn into a starter vs. MLB pitchers, yet Roansy's delicate arm needs to waste away against AAA pitching until he has magically gotten to the point that coincides with avoiding Super Two and can be called back.
