Love to see Shelton say in post game, until ownership lets our management make real baseball decisions regarding players this is the crap you're stuck with, but I'd like to keep getting paid as well, so we're stuck with crap.

Yes Nutting is the issue, Not Mega Baseball Teams & owners

Greg Brown is almost astonishingly unprofessional in games these days, especially with Walk. He hates him and antagonizes him nonstop throughout the game, and is in general just a real drag on the team. Joe Block is pretty boring and whatever, but we'd be in a much better situation if Brown got canned.
The team is a drag on the team. Brown is going the same way as Lanny. Just tired of seeing an organization refuse to try

So mega teams and owners are preventing the Pirates making team decisions like trading players and manipulating service times, as well as consistently trading for or claiming recently DFA'd garbage from other teams. The Pirates are never getting the Soto's of the game, but in today's game you can't put a competitive or entertaining product on the field by being in the bottom third in payroll year after year.

This season has broke me of the belief that the "Spend Nutting, win Nutting" people were wrong.
Spend Nutting, Win Nutting was always right.

Liking Oneil Cruz in the interviews these days. Saying the right things, sounds bought into what the staff is teaching. Sounds focused on learning, growing, and being accountable. Hopefully he continues to back up his words with deeds.

Cal Mitchell had a great series at least. He's now 11-37 since coming back up, .297/.813. Last 7 games he's started, it's 8-25, which is .320/.946.

That swing is so pretty and hopefully what we're seeing now is a springboard to a good finish to the season for him. Solid defender with decent wheels (subpar arm), I do like him and Suwinski as the most likely corner OF guys next season.

All we can do now is hope there are numerous trades and DFA and the guys languishing in AA/AAA who deserve to be here already, are up and we show some spunk down the stretch w/improved players.

But yeah, this winter, the only thing that will get me back, is a new coaching staff, with credentials, and some sort of spending on an outside FA to demonstrate they're serious about trying to win at least 80ish games next year.

The Bahstahn Red SUX Bitched & Moaned that they were going to draft Josh Bell but he said he was going to college & MLB came up with the slotting system to take away one last advantage small markets had on Mega Markets. how do you think the Nuttings became Billionaires by throwing good money after bad ?

Yeah, his play recently has been really encouraging to see. I was hoping that their OF next year would be Reynolds in CF, Suwinski in RF and one of Marcano, Mitchell, Madris, Swaggerty or Smith-Nijigba would claim the LF spot.

Their off-season focuses should be to add more offense from the C, 1B and DH spots. I'd be fine with getting a lefty platoon 1st baseman to platoon with Chavis, since Chavis is fairly decent against lefties (.788 OPS) but crappy against righties (.613 OPS). If you can get say a guy similar to Moran to platoon with Chavis, I think you'd get pretty decent production out of 1st base. Or maybe a guy like Vogelbach that can actually play 1st.

My goals for this off-season would be:

1. Re-sign Quintana or bring in another comparable #3/4 starter in free agency
2. Re-sign Perez and hope he can stay healthy next year (or bring in a comparable guy)
3. Sign a lefty platoon 1st baseman to platoon with Chavis at 1st
4. Sign a right handed DH that can actually hit lefty pitching

He's awful at everything other that homer calls in big moments. He doesn't have good baseball knowledge, whines constantly, and is openly hostile to Bob Walk every time they are together, sometimes like today for pretty much the whole game. He gets snippy with Wehner as well, but there are games like today where it's clear that there's dead air multiple times because of how bad he gets. I really don't know how anyone can stand listening to him, and I wouldn't compare him to Fratere at all.

This is a ridiculous statement, it has zero to do with operating a franchise to compete. The Pirates can field a competitive team and still make money, so where would Nutting be throwing good money after bad, they'd rather field a team with a payroll and operating expenses that virtually guarantee a profit before the first pitch of the season is thrown.

That is the crux of it. A baseline of operating profitability in an industry where the soaring valuations guarantee investment profitability already. I find it really hard to believe that a politician couldn't win mayorship or power in Allegheny County just by promising to be openly hostile to Nutting.

That is The Slush Fund/Tax on the Mega Franchises so the small market owners make money. Yes Ridiculous statement that the Red SUX bitched & Moaned & MLB changed the rule

Yea the mega baseball teams like the rays, Indians and royals.
The royals had 2 good seasons since 1985 and have only been in the playoffs 2 times since 1985.
The Indians play in a crappy division and haven’t won a playoff series since 2016
Rays have the same playoff wins as the pirates

Find the Last Rep. Mayor of Pittsburgh & then get back to me

But the Media Kool-Aid tastes so damn good

The draft lottery now looms as something more likely to hurt out pick standing than anything else. I'm reasonably confident that we may not catch the Nats, but we're way more likely to finish 2nd or 3rd than 4th or higher, especially if Quintana is moved.

Maybe we'll luck out and get the top pick, and there's still some depth to fall back on at the top, but man, the bleak weeks just keep on rolling in. I'm really hoping we can regroup and see a flurry of activity at the deadline but also in the offseason to address the spots that are obviously so far beyond working that it's not even funny. That and to be in a position to take Dylan Crews next summer.

Baseball is broken. Ohtani and trout Thore are going to miss the playoffs again the Phillies haven’t been in the playoffs for 15 years. There’s a reason why owners wanted to expand the playoffs in the cba. The Padres have operated at a loss for years but might finally make the playoffs

So we actually now have people defending the ownership and its refusal to invest in the product? FFS.
The ownership group that broke the playoff drought that had payroll as high as 17 in the league and the stadium didn’t sellout enough and the brewers who were rebuilding had better attendance.
It’s amazing how the cap and floor helped save the penguins and kept Crosby Malkin Letang here there entire career but in baseball guys will make 400 billion and never win.
Baseball needs true tv revenue sharing like the nfl the dodgers 350 billion dollar tv deal makes it an unfair advantage.
