Hard to complain at that price. Even if he's a glove-only 2 WAR guy, paying that dude $13-15M after 6 years of inflation isn't a big deal.

Just to solidify the doom and gloom, if it was his glove hand, that's the same one as the wrist injury last year. Hard to tell what happened, but... sure would have been nice if Gamel made a routine play instead of standing around.

Interesting deal not made official, pending physical is latest, no? Wonder if they already did that or can they just grab that paperwork and put it in the fire....

Yeah, I saw it was pending a physical and wouldn't be approved until likely next week once the Pirates get back to Pittsburgh.

Imagine the shitshow if the Pirates back out on it due to Hayes having some sort of problem with his wrist.

If the deal is not signed and this is a longer term injury, I'd put good money on the Bucs pulling the offer completely.

And honestly, I would understand. Wrists are no joke in baseball and if they think that's a consistent occurrence, it's money wasted, especially for a team that doesn't spend much to begin with. I hope it's nothing, couple of days of rest. Give Diego a shot.

But yeah, if the wrist is bad, that deal isn't getting finished.

I feel like my concern with pulling that deal is that it would almost definitely spoil the relationship between Hayes and the Pirates entirely.

few things that make me want to run out into hte pouring rain, fall on my knees, throw my arms above my head and raise my head heavenward to curse god like the pittsburgh pirates

Conspiracy theory alert:

Hayes deliberately injured himself so he'd fail the physical and void the deal because he's already regretting the deal.

Hayes is fine according to his brother's twitter.

I don't think it would affect the deal, but who knows. I would imagine that the worst case scenario, some money would be reduced, but if the deal was ripped up, it would effectively mean that it's unlikely another one happens. Just to play it out -- we aren't even pretending to care about winning in 2022, so he could have a papercut and we could keep him out for a week to be safe and it wouldn't matter.

Let's hope it's no big deal and was just excess caution.
