OT: Raiders news, notes

Contract agreed to. 3 years
Low enough cap hit. Under what Carr would have cost. See if he stays healthy or not as Stidham signed with Denver and thus no backup at the moment unless they are rolling with Garbers. Denver with Russ paying a backup unlike what Seattle did during his tenure when his backups made $1 mill only. Tav Jackson, Boykin, Quinn, Smith.

Waller to Giants for 3rd/100 OA
Waller was hurt for most of last season. Given how much TE loved using their TE, initially it seemed strange, but he got a new deal and then didn't play. Strong TE draft, so I'd expect the Raiders to use one of these 2 third round picks (Theirs and this one) on a TE. Probably going to be the likes of Laporta from Iowa or Kraft from South Dakota.

Tight ends right now are Horsted, Howard and Hooper. Not exactly elite level. Still eye a TE in round 3 most likely.

So far through free agency, LV still requires CB, DL, OL (either IOL or OT opposite Miller) and another weapon. Be it WR or TE. Those would be my targets for days 1 and 2 of the draft at this point.

They have multiple day 3 picks in rounds 5, 6 and 7. Add depth and maybe next year in 2024 one maybe 2 can be a regular contributor.

Once bitten, twice shy?
Due diligence is required. Is the structure in place to ensure Carter if drafted remains on the straight and narrow? Probably more opportunity to get into trouble in LV that say a Midwest or northeast city due to the nightlife and better weather later in the season.

That’s just the off field stuff. On field, his consistency is an issue. Are you getting a Cox, Jones, Heyward DT or a DT with the inconsistency of effort that seemed to plagued Clowney who was equally as talented as a DE coming into the nfl but suffered some injuries.

Honestly, thought for a quick glimpse it was Bobby Hoying an OSU QB from back in the day. lol....

I don't get the sense that the Raiders are targeting a QB at 7. Even if Richardson or Levis falls to them. Get the sense that Josh wants the 7OA pick on the field this season. Can't afford a sub 0.500 season IMO. If one of those guys is there, I'd expect LV to seek a trade down to add another pick. Maybe use that extra pick and their own 2nd to move back into round 1 if someone like Hooker is there. Or in the event one of these 2 QBs falls a bit.

Only so many HC and GMs can afford to sit a QB this season. Most need something out of a top 15 pick on the field.

Huh
That is the deadline for a multi year deal otherwise JJ plays on the tag. But that is not the deadline for JJ to sign it. Can wait until like week 9 I believe.

But I doubt the raiders offer anything more than a guarantee of what the next 2 tags are which appear to be $10 mill and $12 mill.

So something like $48 mill over 4 years with $22 mill guaranteed. $8 at signing with base of $7 mill in years 1&2 and base of $13 mill in years 3&4 which he would not see. Thus cap hits of $9 mill each for years 1&2, and assuming he’s not around for year 3, LV eats the $4 mill remaining in dead SB in 2025. Unless they opt to make him a post June cut and split the amount over 2 seasons.
