Getting closer to the deadline for his guarantees to vest. So far, he's only spoken with the Saints. Word was that he canceled a trip to Carolina to remain in NO for an extra day. Has he spoken with Carolina?
Who blinks first? Do the Raiders want to go into the true off-season with Carr's contract hanging over them? Does Carr want to risk not getting cut and thus he's not available when his desired destinations start going after free agent QBs like Jimmy, Tanny, Baker who become available in mid March? Do the other teams who really want Carr want to get into a bidding war with other clubs? $33 mill cap charge for the upcoming season isn't terrible for a 11-15 OA QB. That's around the current cap charge for Goff for example.
What is Carr worth contract wise as a free agent?
Personally, I think he'd get a deal that basically guarantees 2 years annual average. Like he would get a 4 year deal worth around $140 million, with like $20 mill in signing and lower base salaries in 2023 and 2024 to take his cap hit landing between $25-$30 mill in 2023 and around $30 mill in 2024. If he got cut before 2025, that team eats a $10 mill dead cap charge, which isn't terrible when considering it's a QB. Ryan would cost Indy $12 mill if he's cut in 2023 as an example.
