Player Discussion Rafaël Harvey-Pinard

I haven't been able to see much of the Habs this year but my mind is just blown, RHP after looking so good last year really struggled to start this season so it's shocking to see him go from struggling in the AHL early on to racking up goals left and right in the NHL. Next season will be very interesting to see how it goes for him as I thought he would be an NHLer but more of a 4th line bubble guy.

Right now he's just happy to be in the show and having success on a team with low stakes. I want to see how he plays when he feels established in the league. If he develops into more of an agitator or what kind of player he wants to be. Hopefully Laval makes the playoffs and we can see more of his competitive edge there, that should be his last time in the AHL

I feel like Suzuki has something that not too many players have, including Koivu. And that may allow him to eclipse post knee injury koivu.

Also, Suzuki is very cerebral in his board battles and aggressive play. Hopefully that will allow him to win his share of puck battles without suffering all the injuries Koivu did.
Suzuki also has an element of deception in his game. I love that

i'm seeing some archetypes emerging here in the new crop ...

RHP > new Gallagher?
Harris > new Gorges?
Guhle > new Weber (potential to be better, I wasn't a huge fan of Habs Weber)
Suzuki > new Plekanec (less speed, better shot?)

Dach, Caufield and Xhekaj no real Habs comparables that I can think of in the last 20 years... feel free to add though
Dach = Gomez
Caufield = Gionta
Xhekaj = angrier, bigger Wisniewski

:sarcasm:

RHP reminds me a lot of Yanni Gourde. I remember Yanni in Victoriaville, the pucks was always stick to him. He was a hell of player. Small, but he wasnt playing small. RHP is playing the same way, the puck is always stick to him and with his efficient positionning, dman are making turnovers. Really fun to watch.

A one way deal 2 years 1.4...same as Jordan Harris seems fair
He'll probably have to settle for a home town guy rebate, but so far, he's shown that he's 10x more impactful in games than Harris. I think that a fair salary for 2 years should be around 2M/year. And even at that price, we all know he'll be more productive than Armia/Hoffman/Dvorak combined.

With 14 goals in 30 games. RHP is a lock for next season. Plus the heart he brings to team.
He should be for sure. His shooting percentage will be hard to replicate though, people need to keep expectations in check.

Great player though, if he can continue to progress the way he has we have a real nice piece here.

Are you saying a 25% shooting percentage is unsustainable? lol

It clearly is....however, when you get your nose dirty and you're banging in pucks from around the crease most of the time, it helps.

But yes, I doubt he will pace for 40 goals (over a full season) next season. I can definitely see him as a 15-20 goal scorer with the way he plays.

He should be a 15-20 guy, I don’t think that’s unrealistic.

It will depend on his deployment obviously, he's getting top 6 minutes, PP time and getting a prominent role with the goalie out.. he likely doesn't get those consistently over a full-season.

But yeah anywhere from 10-20ish goals from the bottom 6 with times where he gets elevated.

All in all, he will be a great complementary player for us. Local guy, heart on his sleeve, gives it all every game. Is good in all 3 zones.

Excellent find by Timmins and the staff. @Whitesnake they finally did it, they got an overager from the Q and he didn't suck shit.

Lol yup.

I see him as a middle-6 staple for next season, should probably be on a 3rd line but he’ll slide up to the Top-2 lines with injuries and if the line needs a different look throughout the game/schedule.

Awesome find, the fact he’s local is a nice bonus.

Depends who his linemates are.

If we get Dubois and our c line is Suzuki-Dach-Dubois, I think he can.

Imagine if we get Bedard and Dubois. Things start to get very interesting and and I do wonder where guys like RHP, Farrell, Heineman, Anderson fit. Even Slaf too.

However, lets say we get both Dubois and Smith. What's your line-up with RHP in it? I think their is a fair chance we have a roster clutter if our young players with potential hit their ceilings like RHP appears to be doing. When I look at our depth and how it might track, I just don't see why we would pick Benson over Smith.

Caufield / Suzuki / Dach
Slaf / Dubois / Roy
RHP / Smith / Anderson
Farrell / Kidney / Heineman

* Don't ask me how I got rid of Gallagher :laugh:

Also, What contract does RHP get this summer? Bridge deal? How many RFA years does he have left? 4?

RHP has a new agent. Philippe Lecavalier.
Gotta feel bad for his old agent, lmao

Would be interesting to see if they want to try to get this guy on a longer term deal like Nick Paul. Tampa loves to lock their depth in.

But I guess the big risk there is simply that Harvey-Bedard is not actually good and this performance is fraudulent. We’ll see but a 2 year deal is likely, wouldn’t be upset if they went longer and took that risk

He has some definite chemistry with Suzuki. He could get 20 goals playing with Suzuki, but then the question is, would that hurt the team more than help it? Unless they can find a balance where Caufield has chemistry with Dach, maybe it could be done? There would have to be a big rebalancing of icetime and all, which might not be good.

He'll probably wind up playing with Evans and Gally, like he has been recently. In that case, if he could get 15 per year, it would be awesome.

Hopefully we can Brandon Hagel him.

3 yrs 1.5 per.

I agree with this. I think he has a place on the third line on a competitive roster, but given the lack of skill and talent we'll have in the top 6, he'll be playing up in the lineup.

I'm curious what sort of deal he might get. I think a 2 year deal is most likely, and perhaps in the 2-2.5 M AAV range.

I think that’s a fair deal for both parties. An extra year could benefit the team if he can continue progression.

Anything under 3 for long-term will be a good deal. 1.5x4 Would be awesome. Gives the team much needed cheap bucks for when the Habs will need to pay the big bills.

Signing Xhekaj to a long-term low salary deal should also be a priority. No more Paying Armia, Byron and Edmundson 3.5+ for a lot of years to play bottom six/bottom pair, use that money on top guys.

RHP be 20 goals at league minimum. With Decent defense Good for team. Something like Daniel Strong this year with Seattle
