Oh absolutely the refs suck in general and it is ruining playoff hockey in just about every series. But if you were also reading the main boards as you suggested I do, you would see all fans (except maybe the Canes fans), I am talking even Rags and Devils fans and Leafs fans are saying no team has been more screwed than the Islanders by this terrible officiating. So Devils and Rags and Leafs fans can see this, but you as an Isles fan cannot? Very strange.

Officiating needs to be consistent, and its not. Its all over the map according to the game and players and the particular refs who are calling it. Its a variable. But you ever notice its mostly the teams who are losing/lost/will lose who are the loudest? see a trend?

I see people complaining about EVERY CALL. EVERY f***ING ONE. It's boring and predictable and many times wrong. Do officials miss calls? oh yea. Do they get stuff wrong? Yup. Super difficult game to officiate.

But when the Isles lose this series, is it the fault of the refs? NO. We aren't EVEN CLOSE to the caliber of the Canes. How can you not see this yet?

Another thing we hear every single year.

The ref talk is predictable and stupid. Moving on...

I slightly disagree with the above though. My observations:

Game 1: Canes slightly better team
Game 2: Isles slightly better team
Game 3: Isles slightly better team
Game 4: Canes clearly better team

So is good ole Lane gonna mix up the lines tonight, or let us go out with a whimper by pretending Horvat and Lee are all of the sudden going to perform like their contract?

I mean that would be cool.

Going to go into the off season not expecting huge changes. Running back this roster, even if you have Holmstrom and Wahlstrom in, doesn't inspire much confidence. I understand the back to back ECF appearances with many of these guys. But unfortunately it seems that window is closed based on the past two seasons.

I'm not saying I have the answers, just lamenting aloud. Saddled with some big contracts of Lee and Horvat is kind of scary with how little they've done in the playoffs. We're banking on Horvat having an amazing regular season next year to make up for it? Idk, I'd rather have the average regular season and a beast in the playoffs. Other than Sorokin and maybe a slight Palmieri nod, he hasn't been amazing but he's trying, very few guys seemed into the playoffs.

Long rant. I'm done. Isles are probably done tonight. And I'm officially done with my damn with my post surgery harder meds and that's going to make this suck more.

As a car guy, I use RPM.

Canes are cruising at 2500 and are playing well. The only way Isles can complete is if Sorokin is a wall, and Isles throw in some octane boost, and install supercharger and run at 4500rpm.

then we have a chance of winning.

Its a 2 vs 7 matchup and it shows nearly every game.

This is my point. I actually agree with the bottom part. So with that being said, we are down 3-1 in the series despite being the better team in half the games. There has to be some other factor in play then to be down 3-1. If the Isles go out tonight and get 5 PPs and go 0-for, and the Canes have 2 PPs and we allow 2 PP goals and lose 2-0, of course it would be crazy to say the refs caused us to lose the series. But if tonight plays out the same way as the last 4 games, then I do not see how one can argue the refs have no affected the outcome of this series. If not for the refs, there is no doubt in my mind this series is 2-2 at worst for the Isles.

We also have to two expensive sports cars in Barzal and Horvat that have yet to leave the garage. That would help as well.

I wouldn't say the Canes are cruising. They are banged up and are fortunate to be up 3-1.

They are fortunate the Islanders, with the 30th ranked power play during the season, also have the worst power play in the playoffs.

Ha! True. And their poor regular season PP has actually come alive.
This is the one part I will say I am disappointed in our team. Their PP always sucks, but our PK is almost always a strength. We have basically let another similarly weak PP score at will on us and that has been a dagger. And to be fair, part of this has to do with Sorokin not making some of the saves he would normally make on the PK.

Game 2 was the game to win for the isles. That goal from behind the next is the difference in the series right now.

Isles should wipe this canes team yet they're being outcoached badly. They've allowed SIX powerplay goals to the one goal the islanders have. They are utterly playing pathetic. 5v5 is good and all, but special teams win you series. The isles are choking it away like the predators did in 2019. They have no power play.

How they play tonight will tell me if they are content to start golfing early or if they really want this. Now, they may still lose tonight, but show some f***ing pride.

How many Canes power play goals has Clutterbuck been on the ice for? He’s been part of the problem.

Best case scenario the Isles not only win tonight but it's due in part to a sub-par performance by CAR goaltending. That would create some doubt for them moving forward.

Otherwise, I'd gladly take an ugly win with no wider implications. :)

VTEC kicks in around 4000k or so, that's what we need.
