I think all of the teams need to come together and realize what’s best for the league and game. Only issue I see is the AHL teams want to see fights and scrubs because that sells tickets.

If the teams are not buying in it won’t work.
True but given the AHL teams need the NHL affiliation I’d be surprised if a meaningful effort by the NHL to resolve the issue failed.

So the AHL needs to be more gentle on young guys? LOL.

Maybe these young players need to be aware of their surroundings regardless of what league they’re in. I know we’re butthurt about our frail, fragile prospects continuously getting injured but it’s not like the NHL is more forgiving as far as big hits go. I hate all these injuries like everyone else but if the player doesn’t have the awareness to know he’s vulnerable, that does fall on HIM to some degree. The league ain’t gonna help here. Undersized skill players need to keep their head up, always.

Keeping your head up guarantees nothing.

I understand your point, but the NHL/AHL should impose stricter penalties on never-will-bes and has-beens who make a career out of cheapshotting players, particularly in the AHL.

There's definitely an onus on the players to be more aware, but teams face minimum consequences from having knuckledraggers busting teeth out in the lower leagues.

Nice job QB -- but let's see what we can do plastered along the boards 15-20 feet from the net.
Low skill Quittin Bustfield

Yeah, QB was out of position, what's with being in a dangerous area?

Nice play by Fagemo to start drifting lower there, the defense had to respect that and had to go down to block the pass. Subtle, but effective. He made the wrong read but if Fagemo is out high waiting for the cross pass that play probably doesn't happen.

TNT, Wheeler, Draisaitl, Nichuskin...I will never understand why people's jaws hit the floor when they're told it often takes many big skilled guys longer to put it together.

Because for every TNT there are about a dozen Brian Boyles.

Nevertheless, QB is looking great in the AHL these past few games.

There really aren't, though.

6'4" and bigger forwards are rare in the 1st round, we're talking one every two drafts or so.

I'm just casually browsing the lists right now and really the last one before Byfield was Rasmussen in 2017.

Might be a fun project to look at tomorrow.

Rasmussen never had the offense at lower levels that QB did. In his draft year he was barely over 1 point/game in the WHL, and the year after crept up to ~1.25 point/game. Byfield on the other hand was nearly at 2 points/game in his draft year (while being 4 months younger). If he had gone back to the OHL the next season, I feel like he would've gone nuclear.

It would be interesting for sure to look at, but I feel like Rasmussen is closer to a reach like Gubranson or Ellerby were based on size, size, and size.

There are 24 forwards 6'4"+ that were taken in the first round that have played in the NHL this year, that surprised me. Not too many are taken in the middle, they tend to be taken top 10 or in the 20s. Here are the ones taken in the top-10:

Nichushkin
Zacha
Rantanen
Dach
Staal (Eric, Jordan)
Pool Party
B. Tkachuck
Laine
Wheeler
Rasmussen
Byfield

Draft range was 2003 (Staal) to 2020 (Byfield), or 18 drafts. So a little more than one per year. You can see why it's perceived to be less though as a big chunk of those are late rounders.

So yeah, interesting. I'm guessing defense is a much bigger list.
