I think some are forgetting he played pretty well with AI and Vilardi. It was our best line to start the season. He’s been out in the spell the team has played better and his absence has nothing to do with the second and fourth lines picking things up.

Absolutely he should go to the AHL to get back into shape but once he’s physically ready he should play. If Kupari continues to play well then they’ll have to make space. They have to think long term and what’s best for developing these guys.
yah no worries .. coach has stated a few times now that players will not lose a spot due to injury ..

I'm almost at the point where I'm screaming Bust and Byfield in the same sentence. But Blake is not going to trade him just yet. That could mean his job

Mike Milbury, is that you?

Byfield was drafted just as covid hit. Take a look at the other top prospects of 2020 for reference. How's Lafreniere doing?
Looked good preseason of next year and has an ankle break. Awesome, takes the rest of the year to recover and get going.
This year started out strong with AI and Vilardi for a change. Not having a broken down Brown or AA as his line mates helped tremendously. Then he gets hit with sickness and now recovering and getting back up to speed.

If we took the 'you have 2 years or traded' approach we wouldn't have Vilardi, Kempe, or other prospects who could easily breakout within 1-2 years (Kupari, Turcotte, Bjornfot).

If you want to look at someone who could be on the cusp of bust territory: Lafreniere. Low injury history. Ample opportunity with the deployment, with some talent to play with.

Byfield still has 2-3 years to change our minds. I would agree he has not come in like Matthews or McDavid into the NHL, but has anyone since them?

Hey don't get your knickers in a twist. I just said that from the 2nd overall pick,I thought more would have surfaced.Hey I'm pulling for Quinton Byfield to bust out and have a 15-20 goal season,. Having said that there just isn't a lot of spots open on the Kings. And when he's back does he slide back to the 3rd line while Kupari goes back to Ontario or maybe goes down and plays on the 4th line.

I didn't mean to give the impression that I am impatient as if we even have a choice with Byfield. Only that Byfield needs to outgrow some habits that are a bit more glaring than most prospects and I hope the Kings are aggressive in their development of him rather than passive. LA's recent prospects have not had the same trajectory as most in the league, they are actually mostly the outliers. If they can do that consistently, good for them, but in the end, he is a top prospect in the league and needs to take some steps to put himself in a position to be a top player on the team. I merely hope that instead of letting him figure things out like his first stint or two, they are more hands-on in showing what he needs to do. He has weapons no one on the team has and he is the only one with the potential or skillset to replace Kopitar. Just hoping and naturally concerned about them successfully guiding him to putting it all together as anyone.
You think it's a good idea to be aggressive with a prospect? lol.

Absolutely. Better than sitting back and watching him bunny hop and going, meh he will probably figure it out sooner or later...
I think you gotta let him figure it out. That's just my two cents.

All good. Sometimes it's hard to tell if people are kidding/sarcastic/cynical. Hope I didn't sound confrontational myself.

I agree, not a lot of spots open and TMac gives more time to veterans than what we believe. We also have Turcotte and Bjornfot waiting for openings. Our B-level prospects who should be on the third/fourth line (Thomas/Madden/Fagemo/Helenius/Andersson) are all waiting for spots to open which are doubtful. Not to mention Spence is ready for NHL but we have more than enough RHD so that's impossible it seems.

But with Byfield, he was off to a good start with the Iafallo-Byfield-Vilardi line at the start of the year. He should be back on track soon.

I agree we should hold onto Byfield for a while and give him a chance. But you can’t make the 2020 Covid argument and conveniently fail to mention Stutzle.

Oh totally! Some bucked the trend 100%.

Stutzle was coming into the draft looking as more ready. I remember some of our conversations was "we need to draft Stutzle because he can slot beside Kopitar now". He really translated his game to the NHL seamlessly.

Other than Stutzle, I have not been overly impressed with. Raymond has been solid, but nobody else looking fantastic thus far.

I remember being blasted on here for hating the Byfield over Stu pick. Yet here we are still waiting for Byfield to not suck while Stu is establishing himself as a near PPG player

Bottom 3 teams can afford to give their young players lots of ice time.

You also called Vilardi a "massive bust" on August 10th and have spent the better part of the last year trying to trade anything blue chip for lesser assets.

So yeah forgive us for not having your prescience I suppose.

Are you somehow trying to imply that he wouldn't be a top 6 forward on the Kings???
I'm saying a bottom 3 team can give Timmy lots of ice time to rack up points & negatives & pay him over 8M next year. None of this helps the King's win.

I believe my words were looking like a massive bust, but I'll defer to you since you've clearly stalked my posts. Difference is though, I actually liked the Vilardi pick at the time. Byfield I've hated from day 1.

And yes, pardon me for wanting a team that (without their best player) took the oilers to 7 games, to go all in. What a crazy idea.

Stu and Fiala are somewhat similar players. The Kings just gave up assets to get Fiala, presumably to help them win. I'm not following your logic on this one.

And as opposed to Byfield, who's done what exactly to help the Kings win?

Really thought Byfield's play between AI and Vilardi (which was rock solid) as well as Vilardi's bust-out at 23 would help people realize that patience can pay off when you're talking about someone who's 20 years old, drafted during one of the strangest times in recent history.

I don't doubt QB's ability at all. I think he's shown enough that his floor will certainly be good top-sixer, with a ceiling considerably higher than that. I just hope he gets put in situations that allow him to succeed, so that ceiling can be reached. Hopefully he recovers and goes down to the A and finds his game in time to be a factor later this season.

He wouldn't with our current top 6 and TM ad coach

Again there is no defensive accountability in Ottawa, why they looking like a lottery team again when they were supposed to pushing for a playoff spot. Easy to rack up points when you don't have to worry about defense

I know I'm a biased homer, but I'm not really that impressed with Stutzle.

As of now, I'm still happy the Kings selected QB over him. (This could change over time of course)

This is a huge cope when the Kings just traded for an equally bad defensive forward in Fiala
