Danault with 23% finishing is the most King thing to ever King.
Anyone else surprised they have not tried Vilardi and Byfield together with one on the wing? They are opposite handed players so whomever has the faceoff on their strong side plays center. Changes from shift to shift.
the athleticism is kind of a marvel to me, it's so different from anyone else out there. really excited to see what he becomes with an NHL program supporting him nowThat size, speed, skill and REACH is going to be killer.
I think Byfield will be best in the long run but Stutzle and Laf are going to be great also eventuallyBold prediction: by the end of this season, Byfield will be labeled as the best player out of that '20 draft (at least by Kings fans, ha)
The kid looked good to great most shifts last night. I’m willing to give him a pass on the lack of finishing over a handful of NHL games. He’s scored in the AHL, so it’s just a matter of time and opportunity. And it’s the Kings, so no one scores a lot.
But his skating stride has me wondering if it’s a hindrance. Being bent over that much so often isn’t something you really see in great players. Maybe that’s part of the package which allows QB to be dynamic at maneuvering without the puck. But with the puck, you’d think standing up combined with a wing span would increase puck protection. Look at the way Kaliyev or even Moore square their shoulder with the puck on their stick
Even Coach Todd can see the kid oozes talent. And it’s not a criticism to say his skills are still raw at the NHL level. A lot of people are comparing him to Kopitar or Eric Staal because of size. But I see more of Matthews game in QB. And Matthews was an NHL rookie at QBs age who was handed the 1C. Or if not at high a ceiling as Matthews then a floor of Scheiffle, who took a couple of seasons to breakout.
I remember discussing a number of reasons for this.
1. he plays with a tiny stick
2. one of his early interviews he pointed out he wasn't hitting as much because he got penalized every time he hit someone in 16U, he got used to hunching over so he wouldn't kill people
I hadn’t heard about the hitting thing, thanks for that. And on the stick, I feel like he’s started to use a longer one than what we saw at last years WJCs. Maybe his off season growth led to a longer piece of lumber.
That rush by him last night was pretty awesome. I was expecting him to pass or shoot but he whizzed by Girard out of nowhere. It would have been an excellent 1st goal.

Gretzky was bent over and played with a short stick too, so he might be ok.
That play hustling back and breaking up the rush and quickly turning the play back around was as impressive to me as his cross net rush.
reminded me of Kopitar in his rookie year.

Not bold at all IMO. I’ve been saying it since before the draft.Bold prediction: by the end of this season, Byfield will be labeled as the best player out of that '20 draft (at least by Kings fans, ha)
Keep in mind Cam Robinson had him comfortably at #1 and several others have said similar (highest ceiling, lowest certainty).
He also had Turcotte at #3 in ‘19.
