Speculation: Quinn Hughes wants to contend

Scott Niedermayer was going to play with his brother.

The Hughes Bros live together all off season, they grew up together, this is an opportunity in the primes of the careers to potentially win together. GM Tom goes back 30+ years with the family, and Jack/Luke know how great it is to play in Jersey with a limited spotlight but all the benefits. You think Jim and Ellen like staying up late for the West Coast everyday?

He's coming to Jersey. The question is whether Van wants to get something back.

The return is going to be similar to Rantanen.

Dougie Hamilton, Simon Nemec and maybe a Gristyuk straight up for Quinn is solid return. Maybe a little bit more. But not that much more.

So if Quinn re-signs in Vancouver the NJ Hughes will leave NJ and sign in Vancouver since that's the only way they can play together.

I like it.

I want Quinn to come to NJ just to watch a televised cage match between him and Luke to see who gets to wear No. 43. Otherwise, I do not see Vancouver even entertaining trade offers for Quinn until next year if he indicates that he is not re-signing in Vancouver.

NJD or NYR.

Rebuild the Canucks defense and add a young top 6 forward and a 1st.

Dawson Mercer or Alex Lafreniere
Jonas Siegenhalter or Keandre Miller
Simon Nemec or Braden Schneider
Anton Silayev or Ej Emery
NJD 2026 1st or NYR 2025 1st
For
Pius Suter
Quinn Hughes

Not getting all that if he is demanding a trade
he has no trade protection and 31 teams that want to trade for him. We are getting a bigger haul than any player since Lindros.
Oh welz, sometimes you drop a carton of eggs and an omelete is made.

Nucks and Isles - Petterson, 1st round pick, D Petey, Hoggy for Dobson and Barzal and Nelson (Petey can play with Horvat)

Miller for any 1b/2a center and picks
our 1st round pick will be top 5 if we blow it up in season this year. take it out and add something else.

Hahahahahhahahaha that is a good one

You guys are going to legit be on suicide watch when this is over holy smokes

When what is over? Did you really take what Rutherford said so far out of context you believe the organization is closing in on a full rebuild? Whatever happens with Pettersson/Miller/Demko/Boeser won't change the philosophical direction that Alvin and Rutherford will take here. And that is to build around the organization's best player in history - Quinn Hughes.

Even if all the aforementioned players move on from the organization over the next couple years, there's still more than enough value from those players to re-tool the team around the league's beat defenseman. A full rebuild? Get serious here..I know it's difficult in this bait and troll thread.

One of Pettersson/Miller is being moved and fans like the one I quoted think Pettersson, earning $11.6M with 31 points, is getting a king’s ransom lmao

The most likely outcome is Miller is moved in the off-season and Pettersson re-finds his game.

I know rival fans are frothing at the mouth that Pettersson is just a 60 pt fwd from now on, but the more based take is that we're seeing an elite player in the biggest slump he will probably have in his entire career.

All this doom and gloom like the Canucks are a lottery team. Literally everything has gone wrong this year and they are still fighting for a playoff spot.

Their "philosophical direction" has led to its two star forwards locked in a franchise-paralyzing feud, with another homegrown talent in Boeser headed for the door this summer at the latest. Then add in the smoke around Demko... "building around" a player is much different than having one great guy and nothing else after him. You may not call that a rebuild, but if they suck enough to choose in the top 10 for the next few years, it doesn't matter.

But there's clearly not. No one seems to want Miller even at a greatly reduced price if the NYR rumors are true. EP is the same unless/until he returns to PPG form. Who exactly is Van going to move for value, Dakota Joshua?

vancouver has a ton of leverage if it comes to trading hughes, top 2 defensemen in the world with no trade protection and underpaid, practically carrying his team into a playoff spot... it's going to hurt to get him

I think multiple other teams would pay more for him and roll the dice they could entice him to stay. Throw him in a winning environment and he might re-up, there's only speculation his desire to play with his brothers outweighs contending. The Staals never forced themselves together, clubs did it more than anything else.
There will be a market
Jersey is a winning environment
"Speculation his desire" huh? Who wouldn't want to play with your 2 bros?
