Meanwhile, the Sens came away with a powerplay on this:
Had no choice, if an injury (ie cut and stitches in this case) from boarding, it’s a major and a game. It’s 2 mins. Boarding and softish, but no embellishment either.
I don’t understand how in God’s name they can call that a major and game misconduct.
Wasn’t a “fight” because then they would have had to give Ullmark something. The hit was obviously a bad one, but it's hard to argue about who instigated the fight even if i feel like the calls on who started it is a coin-toss sometimes.
Pretty much this and it only gets a 6 on the Greg Luganis scale for Norris.WTF is that BS.
that was a soft ass shove, Garland gets shoved harder than that 3-4 times a game.
Read the rule. They could (should have) reversed it to a minor after review, then the blood/game misconduct thing becomes irrelevant because it's no longer a major penalty.
The penalty should not have been held up as a major.
I didn’t think that anyone could out-goon Jack but Jeez. That family are nothing but unrepentant thugs. Why thr league hasn’t suspended the parents for birthing and raising those savages is beyond me.
I'm surprised he's not leading the charge for a suspension and tagging Dops in his social media posts like he does when it's the Leafs. When do we hear Friedman defend the league on this one?
No, the boarding rule has its own exception. Any injury to the face or head from boarding is an automatic game misconduct.
Per the rules, the difference between major and minor is entirely discretion.Had no choice, if an injury (ie cut and stitches in this case) from boarding, it’s a major and a game.
See rule 41.5 I think
Even though it’s been said a dozen times or more in thread. Apparently no one is reading.
When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct penalty shall be imposed
(Emphasis added, note that injury is not a direct criteria of the judgement between major and minor)Per the rules, the difference between major and minor is entirely discretion.
41.2 and 41.3 are:
The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a [41.2: minor/41.3: major] penalty, based on the degree of violence of the impact with the boards
