Tough loss for the USA. Too many penalties and maybe too much Eichel trying to do things himself. Russia reminded me of a Canadian team sitting on a lead in the third. Sitting back often costs you but I guess they have a lot of confidence in their goalie.

Pretty disappointing tournament and game for Eichel

He actually had a very good game, I thought. He was playing with Miles Wood who is the Tanner Glass of the USA team. Whiffed on a few passes right on the doorstep. Eichel should have had a few assists.

I think that was a MacTavish reference.

not sure if worse.

regardless, did people think that the Americans ever seemed like a threat to get to the gold medal game? They got out-classed by Canada, struggled with a Finland team in a down year, undisciplined vs. Russia. Can't tell me Santini would make up for all of that. Eichel didn't look like someone who will be in the NHL next year.

You guys need to stop holding 17-19 year old kids to the accountability of NHL players. These guys are kids. Of course they're going to do stupid **** when they're frustrated. Calm down.

I thought he was by far the most dangerous US player on the Ice today.

He played great. If he scores on one of those efforts he's hailed as a god. If he doesn't he's a selfish puck hog?

you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't on these boards.
It wouldn't hurt to pass the puck

Everything wrong with hockey in 5 words.

When taken from a fifteen line comment, out of context this looks bad.

You have a different viewpoint and that is fine. I think you should act like you have been there before. Celebrate a big win, but act respectful to the other team and don't jump around in their faces over a quarter final victory. I would say the same if my team did it.

That said, they are kids, and exuberance usually trumps sportsmanship.

The US offense looked good in the 3rd period, they may have problems with the 'finishing shot', though they are very good at setting up the puck. Russia played well in the 1st two periods, but I didn't like their 3rd. Respect to the US, Russians still need to work harder, but overall definitely a better effort than their game against the Czechs.

I'll take the win, but there was way too much time spent in the defensive zone, and way too many scrambles in the crease for loose pucks. Its still the same old problem of letting them into the zone uncontested, backing up and letting them fire away, and then mindlessly trying (unsuccessfully) to clear the puck up the side boards, where opposing forwards are waiting to make an easy interception and then move the gift puck back in front of the Russian crease. I'm screaming obscenities at my TV screen, but they keep on doing it. We can't spend that much time in the zone against Sweden or Finland and hope to win.

Eichel was trying to do to many things himself BECAUSE NONE OF HIS LINEMATES WERE DOING JACK **** AND IT WAS HIS ONLY OPTION.

I tought Eichel played a ton better than Larkin today.

Today when the intensity picked up. Eichel generated offense. Larkin's offensive inefficiencies came to the fore front imo.
I didn't see that at all. In fact, the opposite. But maybe we value different things. I thought Larkin had some glorious chances. Eichel flashed much more skill, but it was almost counterproductive. He dipsy doodled when he should have done something simple.

All tournament long I've been waiting for that huge Eichel writer. It never came.

USA was very undisciplined and generally pretty meh, did not deserve to advance.

They had 16 more shots than Russia, and it looked like they were playing a man up when they weren't on the PK because they dominated Russia that much. I guess you can say that the USA should have done better, but how did they not deserve to advance? Did the team that got outplayed badly deserve to advance?

Eichel was the best player on either side by a wide margin but yeah let's blame Eichel.

In this game? I'd have to disagree. He's getting a disproportionate amount of the blame right now, but I don't think he was USA's best. I liked Hanifin more (for the second game in a row) and I thought Schmaltz was their most dangerous offensive presence. Heck, I'd even say Matthews was better today.
