I hope we do nothing.....Its going to be another 2 years of hopefully letting contracts run their path and regain some deadline assets with those players......maybe we can unload Dvorak and or Armia but other than that let the kids play and maybe get lucky with another trade for youth or a couple of our own prospects surprise....just my two cents

Was Mantha bougth out? If not I would try and trade Hoffman or Armia for him. I think if he could get his swagger back we could get something decent for him at the dealine.

We have cap space to take on bad contracts but it seems that market has dried up. I was looking at cap friendly and not that many teams have cap problems right now. Guys like Josh Bailey, Kailer Yamamoto, Reilly Smith have already been traded. The two guys that could be plausible to take on are Mantha and Matt Murray.

Thing is Washington doesn't really have cap problems and in Toronto's case, why would we help them? Also they don't have 2nd round picks for the next 3 years so we can't even ask for that. They probably wouldnt give up their 1st. And also if Murray can actually play, we already have 3 goalies, doesnt make sense to add one more.

So looks like our 10M of cap space will go unused, or will be used on someone like Killorn or Dumba.

We can still retain on 3 contracts, I would save at least 2 for the deadline, but at this point it's surprising they havent dealt Hoffman or Edmundson with retention. They only have one year left so could have gotten a draft pick

What do you expect him to say in the press conference after the sign and trade, that he much preferred Montreal ?
What's being said is that he had a change of heart because of the way it is in MTL (like the craziness that ensued with Reinbacher). This was before the Reibacher crap, so he must of read social media and all the crazies bashing him. There were just as many people wanting him as there were not wanting him, and there was all kinds of crap said on social media about him, Iike; quitter, overpaid and overrated at 60pts, etc. I know some people don't think these people read social media and the like, but they do.

What is this new narrative that PLD did not want to come here?

He wasn’t a UFA, it wasn’t for him to decide.
Arpon Basu’s article in The Athletic:

This front office led by Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes has had a relatively smooth ride up until now. This is their first brush with the flip side of the passion of the fan base, the accountability and scrutiny that comes with it. I was told Thursday that Pierre-Luc Dubois mentioned this in weighing his decision between following his heart to Montreal or following his head to Los Angeles, and another front office source took that a step further.

“We’re trying to make Montreal a place players want to play,” he said, “and this stuff definitely doesn’t help.”

If we sign anyone, I hope it’s something super short that can be flipped for assets at the deadline.
Personal opinion, but I doubt that happens. I think if they sign someone it'll be in the longer range for the next few years, unless it's a plug. If they do sign someone it'll be to add to the team to advance them. I'm thinking that the tanking days are probably behind them at this point, even if we're not there yet. Like I said, a personal opinion and feeling I have.

Apparently, Belzile and Richard are going the way of Laurent Dauphin and want guaranteed NHL roster spots and one-way contracts. That didn't exactly work out for Dauphin. He signed in Arizona expecting to play in NHL, and spent 20 games there. He would probably have gotten more NHL games with us just due to all our injuries.

Richard wants a better opportunity to play in NHL, so he's gone. Not really surprised. He actually gave that interview saying he didn't feel he was given a chance to show what he could do (stuck on 4th line).

Another team may think Belzile can be a 4th line center full-time. Apparently, both are drawing interest from other organizations.

It doesn't sound like either will be back.
Belzile..... He barely made a roster that was completely crippled, he is 30-something, yet believes someone will give him a good NHL contract. My guess is that he is hoping for something like that, but will sign back with us if it doesn't happen.

Not expecting us to do anything today and that’s perfectly fine.

But if cheap and 1 or 2 years, Max Comtois could make a nice value 4th liner.

In your head

“If not Toronto, Ryan O’Reilly’s been linked to Detroit, Montreal, Nashville and Vancouver. There’s probably more. However, some sources warned not to discount his desire for St. Louis until he actually signs somewhere else.”

Elliotte “95% sure” Friedman linking O’Reilly with the habs.

He will look good just behind PLD, another 95% sure player, that we got.

With Mailloux and Reinbacher (maybe) going to Laval, it would be nice to sign a good AHL vet D-man to help them along.
