He got paid to take on useful depth pieces too. Really making a lot of smart moves lately. I am thinking a lot of his early GM struggles were just favors to long time Sharks vets now.
I didn't like his initial deal with Jersey. Gave up a quality top six power forward for secondary prospect assets. Thought he needed a higher quality return from Jersey's prospect pool. But he's really starting to cook. His plan, which wasn't clear early on, is now in place and building around the three foundational pillars for franchise success. Alway liked Mike Grier ... but not a Sharks fan..

If he waives. And that’s a big if.

What contender wants a $3M under performing non-2-way winger on their team?

And what rebuilder would take him on without getting paid? And why would the oilers pay to free up his cap space when they don’t need the cap space?
I think the only way is if he can go to a non contender. Primarily to play bigger minutes and start scoring to cash that next contract.

Regardless it’s a bad situation all around. I’d rather play someone from Bakersfield right now. Friggen cagguila would look better right now. That’s how bad skinner has been

Its sad when the Team is dictating the play, has 40 + shots and barely gets 2 PP. Feels like the refs want to take the special teams out of our games.
They do. The Sharks are the most penalized team in the NHL…. Except when they play Oilers. buncha angels those sharks players are against us apparently.

The Timo Meier deal? I think at the time I gave him a pass for that one but that’s cause I think Timo is overrated and overpaid lol.

Sure, maybe that’s more ideal for Skinner. But non contenders don’t usually load up on offence for shits and giggles.

We’ll see what happens lord can stil change. And I really don’t think Podz and Kap have anywhere near a permanent spot on Drais wing.

Remember last year before Woodcroft got fired, there were a couple games where they ran over the other team, were snakebit and ended up losing. Sometimes they are cursed.

Less than 5% of the cap spent on goalies, i'll never understand you all. Wouldn't be happy with a goalie unless he had a shutout every night and made 800k

Teams currently spending 5% or less on their goaltending and where they rank in team save percentage:

Toronto - 2nd
Colorado - 31st
Edmonton - 22nd
Detroit - 14th
Calgary - 16th
Washington - 6th

So a couple teams at the top of the league. A couple of teams mid tier. Two teams in the bottom 10. The one team on the list that is worse than us recognized the problem and has swapped out both of their goalies. The two new goalies they've brought in have .938 and .932 sv% in the 9 games they've started for the Avalanche.

It's not about how much you spend on goaltending. It's about having goalies who don't suck.

Who will pick up a 3M contract for a thirty something guy who isn't scoring and can't play defense?

Maybe the Flames.

Hawks. Play him top 6 and on the PP. Drive up his numbers and flip him to a contender retained at the TDL. They pick up a couple assets for paying Skinners wages for 3 months and some retention.

You don’t do it for shits n giggles. You do it to pump his offence and dump him for another asset at the TDL and another asset to retain in addition to the asset you picked up to take him on. Grab 3 assets (picks) for spending about $1.5M in real dollars.

In that unlikely scenario of a mid season pump n dump. You would still need to assume the oilers would free up his unneeded cap space though.

Why is it unlikely. Hawks and Columbus are prime candidates. So are the Habs who have a track record of doing such as well.

Oilers trade him plus an asset and get cap space back.

When’s the last time a team swapped $16M worth of roster at the TDL? Do we even have the assets to make that many moves?
My question was whey you’d be satisfied to hang on to 7M of dud weight in Jskinner and Arvid as a SC Contender? Set the TDL LTIR money aside and try to answer that.

I guess I tend to look at bigger pictures and outcomes.

What are you talking about? How did the Oilers take SJ for granted lol.

One mistake, Pickard letting in a horrendous goal (which people would be fuming at Skinner about) but otherwise domination from Edmonton
The slow start that a previous poster was referring to.

I have given Skinner credit when he deserved it.
Yup, he'll never be a consistent scorer. Stick him on the 4th line and if he's part of the best PK in the league and can chip in now and then, I'm okay. He is what he is. No reason for the hate by some people.
He has been decent value for his contract.

We play Ottawa tomorrow, but they also play tonight. Their game doesn't start til 8 though. I'm guessing we steam roll them, with McDrai emptying the tank before the break, and us having the energy advantage anyway

Then again I thought we'd easily win tonight lol. Although we did dominate possession

You might be right about the Hawks.

My reference to the Flames was in jest. They already have a ton of bad contracts.

Sorry maybe I’m forgetting. But what other mid season pump and dumps happened?

Spend an asset to dump cap space we may not need? I thought with Kane LtIR we are looking at $9m in cap without doing anything?
