I would use our youth I hope our center from Tampa Bay Brett Howden can manage to get a spot through this pre season.

Lets face it, by now they have probably made the majority of their roster decisions. What little they have left is mitigated by the fact it's an 82 game season, who cares about playing your best players now. It's a long grind and as much as we want to see the basic opening roster, I don't blame a coach for sitting guys when it really doesn't count.

What about the fact that they have a lot of new guys on the team and they need to get used to each other on the ice. This team needs to be prepared when the puck drops for real. You can't be giving away points in October when the east so competitive.

They skate everyday with each other in practice sometimes twice a day that is plenty sufficient to get them ready for the opener.

Playing your regular roster in every preseason game especially with the depth sorely lacking is kind of dumb. They played well last game and looked prepared, been there done that, go into the season healthy.

Strome is a pretty awful player at everything outside of his hot streak

He’s had a whole career of ineptitude: he’s bad defensively, can’t PK, has bad penalty differentials, can’t play the power play, doesn’t drive offense, and can't really shoot either so what value does he have besides the fact that he’s a body?
He's been with the Islanders and Edmonton, with most of his time being spent in Edmonton, two pitiful organizations. The idea that he can't improve is just asinine. If he came from an organization that has had a competent coaching staff in the past few years then I would understand where you're coming from.

New York Rangers & Real Madrid have something in common they have special players and talent.

If there was a Johnny English prequel/origin story, Chytil would star in it.

Chytil on the wing instead of playing him in at least ONE real game situation between Kreider & Kakko.
That's evaluating players and asking them to step up and take the #2C slot?
What am I missing here?

Unless you believe the coaching staff are either evil or stupid, he must not have earned it.

I believe in Chytil’s potential but maybe the coach saw something (or didn’t see something) in practice that didn’t give him enough confidence to put Chytil on the 2nd line. He sees these guys play a lot more than we do.
