Call me crazy but the team plays bigger and tougher when Lemieux is in the lineup. Seems to be one of those guys who brings it out in his teammates too. Thought he was excellent tonight - very good with the puck in a few sequences and not shy with shooting. He’s third line material imo, we have guys who contribute less who can play fourth line.

The little sample size so far, Chytil's much stronger on the puck and much more decisive. It's what he does away from the puck that will be important.

It's pretty obvious to me that Kravtsov doesn't quite think the game quick enough at this level, on this ice yet.

He'll get sent to the AHL and will no doubt pick up on the NA game very quickly.

Even so, with our depth at forward, he will need to go above and beyond in Hartford this year to force management's hand. Before the TDL at least.

They might send kravstov down but I think he'll stay a few games in the beginning. He'll be getting third line minutes and lias needs his setups. I know kakko was second overall but kravstov was literally listed as a steal in his draft year. He'll adjust, playing with quad a players might help him get used to the ice but thats about it.

Why is Marc Staal even a thing in 2019. My main issue is that the sport is too small so you dont have good options or players to replace him from a youth development team like Wolfpack. And how NHL is working is going backwards, and it`s all about luck concerning drafting even the current GM admit that with a new lucky charm last summer.

C. Kreider if he was a soccer player - he would be far below mediocre talent, but in NY he is a hockey star, and there are other players similar to him around the league, because the sport in the larger picture is limited with total amount of players compare to other sports.
They have players that can play his minutes better than him. He's still on the team because his deal makes him impossible to move & his buyout is very expensive.

Drafting isn't luck, it's good scouting. The lottery is luck admittedly, which is what Gorton brought a "lucky charm" for.

hes got way more talent than your average 3rd line grinder/agitator. he skates well and has decent hands. i see him as a 3rd line fixture. lemme with andersson and howden in the middle would be a really good 3rd line imo.

i really like his attitude and the swag he brings.

he and ADA both on the ice bring an element thats sorely needed.

pugilism isnt fighting per say. its attitude and being tough to play against. i see both of those guys as personalities that could get under the skin of other teams finesse type players and draw penalties and generally make things miserable.

Agreed. Being willing to fight is good but it's more being hard on the puck, not backing down when challenged physically and giving your teammates the sense that they can safely play a little taller and harder with you on the ice backing them up.

Lemieux and ADA bring this but I think with forwards especially, it helps when this type of guy is a forward on your line rather than someone on the backend. Just more communication, more direct support on the ice, etc. I think Trouba is a similar type also, we'll see more of it as he settles in more and the games start counting for more.

For lines, I'd be interested to see Lemieux - Andersson - Kravtsov at some point. Lots of complimentary skills with those three and it keeps a skill forward on the ice for most of the game.

Agreed, he's a great influence on the ice and his style of play definitely stand out.

I'll admit that I was skeptical with some of the expectations for Fox coming into this season, but he's definitely lived up to them so far. He looks great out there.
He looks like an old pro. Like he has been in this league for years. It's amazing. Calm, cool, collected. Looks like we have a new Calder trophy candidate.

That’s a dumb take. Lias is better, why would he go down?
Howden is not going anywhere. He has had played well, and will start the season as 4th line center. It is that simple. Lias on the other hand, might not be needed to open the season.

Last night we had close to our regular line up. Howden played 2c and played 16 minutes. Lias 4th line 9 minutes. Do the math.

Howden also looked pretty bad in our last game, whereas Lias hasn't yet been anywhere worse than meh this preseason. The only way Lias is not needed is if we're intentionally icing an inferior lineup for the purposes of tanking. If that were to be the case, Howden all day every day. He was one of the worst players in the league last year, and I have yet to see anything from him to suggest that he should be in the lineup

Howden has been mediocre pretty much his entire tenure as a New York Ranger. His spoon fed minutes in a preseason game mean near nothing to me.

Your ability to evaluate hockey players is about as mediocre as Brett Howden.

We will soon see whos evaluations are more sound. It was the same thing last year. Everyone cried Lias didn't make the team over Howden. Get your hanky ready.

If perhaps Lias does make it out of camp, it won't be on account of Howden. Howden will center the 4th line. Perhaps Lias will play on Howden's wing.

Well I could say the same thing about Lias getting a long look in preseason.

I suppose you don't like Chytil either. Both had 23 points last year with Howden playing less games. But Howden worth is more than any offensive production. He is very sound defensively. And his PK last night with Lemieux was outstanding.

Chytil last year played wing because they wanted his offensive production. Howden played center cause he was responsible defensively.

I don't think anyone will be that surprised to see Howden played over and in better situations than Lias. That's been happening for a year now.

The question of whether he deserves to is the one you keep answering with "he will!"

That's a confusing way to answer that question.
