Watching a replay...I don't think I've seen Fox make a pass that didn't end up on a Ranger's stick. Zibanejad flying. Kravtsov-Howden-Kakko has had some unbelievable shifts so far. Smith looks like deep-fried ass. Howden has narrowly escaped injury about 37 times already.

First time this pre-season we got a glimpse of what this team can be this season.

Feel better about Kravstsov and luved luved luved that he was so calm and cool and showed barely any emotion after he scored his first goal as a Ranger...as if he'll be doing it alot more down the road.

Panarin showed what he's all about as he was dominant along with Zibs and Buchie. Our 1st line tho maybe not in the ultra elite as the Macdaddy,Rantanen, Landeskog and Pastronek,Bergeron and Marchand lines has potential to be as lethal as any other top line in the league. Tonight we saw a tiny glimse as well of what they can ultimately become.

Fox looks like a 5 year vet so far and not even close to being wet behind the ear rookie.. Seemingly makes the right play all the time. He's going to be a treat to watch this year.

And pray to the hockey gods that Hank and Georgie can be this efficient going forward this season. If we can get this kind of goalkeeping, we will no question be in the playoff mix.

Overall, alot to be hopeful for and it feels good that the boys finally put a good game together after lets be honest, three shit games in a row pre-season or no pre-season.

Fox was crazy good tonight...so much good stuff out there...lots to like.
Holyyyy shit this pass

Panarin made a cornucopia of nice plays but the one that stood out to me was a give and go with Strome at the start of the third. Panarin secures the zone entry and makes a backhand feed to set Strome up in a shooting lane. That's great already, but then he turns and gets open right on his shooting hand so Strome can either shoot, or pass back to Panarin.

Panarin doesn't just make nice plays and stop there. He's always thinking next step. He's always thinking about options. His mind matches the ability.

The obvious play there is to bull the net, which certainly has its merits, but Artemi Panarin doesn't do obvious. It's funny to watch the defender on the Islanders because he bulls the net and then turns around like "oh shit, where's Panarin?"

I could have sworn you were one of my Ranger brothers who when I posted that "Should the Rangers go hard and sign Panarin poll" around 3 months ago which got alot of traction in here and which was from my recollection 54% to 46% for Gorton to get him , you were one of the more "anti-Panarin" proponents and thought signing him would not be in line with the rebuild strategy, as it would be too soon to sign a FA the magnitude of a Panarin because by time we'd be Cup contenders, Panarin would be outside of his prime?

Glad to see you've come around to mine and the majority of our brothers kind of thinking that it was well worth signing this stud...lol

I'm still not sure the Rangers have planned out their timeline at all this summer, but f*** it, he's fun.

Good team win tonight. We needed that.

Top 3 lines played really well. Buch really powered the top line and deserves the first star.

The junior line played well also. Kakko didn't particularly have a great night, but he could have had 2 assists tonight with two great setups. Howden had a good game defensively. And Kravtsov scored.

Strome's line was outstanding. Got plenty of offensive zone time when it counted most, late in a close game. And they played well most of the night too.

Goalies made the saves when we needed them, it was a good team win.

Skjei gets my second star. Played much better today.
Fox was Fox.
And no doubt Panarin is a keeper, third star.

We didn't dominate, but we competed hard. It's good to see. I had my doubts, coming into this.

Some thoughts:

*I liked Lias game too. The bite in his skating is much improved, he did a good job carrying that 4th line. Hopefully he can have a good developing period. I think he has potential to develop a lot, but he isn't on a very straight forward route. Its hard to speculate on what he could become. A new Patrice Bergeron? A new Nik Sundström? A new Mike Ricci? A new Jesper Fast? ;)

*I like Howden. I could definitely live with him centering a line with Kreider/Lemieux on the left and a skilled player on the right -- but putting him between two skilled guys like Kravy and Kakko is odd from my POV. Howden isn't a skill player, he is about pushing the pace with his galloping legs and workethic. Drive to the net. He has some size. That was his game in Juniors and on the international scene for Canada. I think he was a bit oddly portrayed before he came to NY, and I took a lot of heat for describing him this way back then too. And it always creates a bit of a problem when expectations are sat at one level and the reality is another. I don't really buy the division into 1/2/3 lines, I wouldn't say that someone is a 3rd line center and not a 2nd line center. Completely depends on the environment and what a unit needs. But Howden was never going to be that skilled center type that scores 60-70 pts per season -- and it wasn't even close. There is absolutely no reason to be down on him today for not being that type, if anything I think we should be positive about his performance. He is doing well out there.

I still think his "top potential" is more likely to be reached if he is used in kind of the same role as Kreider is.

*I still think Kravy's decision making is a little off. We have had players make the team out of camp with similar type of issues before -- Hayes comes to mind. But maybe Kravy needs a little work in the AHL. At the same time, its small issues that creates bigger problems. Just need to be a little patient and wait for the situations to come to him, and focus more on finding easy-out situations when they don't.

*I thought Kakko was fantastic. He is dancing on his skate, moves the puck so well, buys time, got to love him.

*I thought Brady Skjei had a great game. I don't get the extent he is trashed.

*Fox is sick, TDA is soon joining this group. I think we will have issues when the season starts, but darn, its hard not to be super excited either.

*Last year David Quinn rotated a lot of guys at RD. I can't see why he can't do the same at center this season. Chytil, Lias, Howden and Strome should all get shots up and down the line-up. I know this will drive some nuts, but I also like our outlook when we have a bit physicality on the 4th. Wouldn't mind someone rotating in that position too.

Am I right in thinking Kakko didn't see much ice in the 3rd. I'm sure he wasn't benched. Who gets benched in a preseason game? Maybe just being held out as a precaution or DQ just wanted to see more of the other guys.
