I don't really buy the division into 1/2/3 lines, I wouldn't say that someone is a 3rd line center and not a 2nd line center.
It's just labels. Strome's line (3rd) was actually our 2nd line tonight. They followed the top line all night. But in general 1, 2, 3 usually indicates minutes played. But tonight Strome's line had more ice time than the youngsters.

Skjei had a much improved effort tonight. +3, 2 assists and asserted himself. I give him the 2nd star behind Buchnevich.

Last year David Quinn rotated a lot of guys at RD. I can't see why he can't do the same at center this season. Chytil, Lias, Howden and Strome should all get shots up and down the line-up
This is gonna happen anyway. There are always lulls in one's play during a season. That's the reason they change line combos. To wake them up.

But I think we are pretty set up the middle to start. Howden is likely to retain his 4th line spot from last year. And 2c & 3c go to either Chytil and Strome.

Buch needs to stay with Panarin and Ziba. Kakko should play with Kreider and Chytil. Kravtsov on 3rd line. Howden is probably A bound.

Panarin
Buch
Skjei

Both goalies looked sharp, but I thought Georgie faced the tougher shots. I do think that Hank only plays 50 or so games this year.

It has been a while since we have had a line with the skill of Bread-Zib-Buch. It's gonna be fun to watch!

Hockey's version of office politics. Rookies generally get less in the close of games.

What impressed me most about Panarin last night was what he did when he didn't have the puck. He worked his *** off to get it back. It is super easy in the preseason to float around and wait for your opportunities. He was forcing the issue all night.

Am I right in thinking Kakko didn't see much ice in the 3rd. I'm sure he wasn't benched. Who gets benched in a preseason game? Maybe just being held out as a precaution or DQ just wanted to see more of the other guys.

nah, the second line didn't play too much in the third. although Quinn sent them right out there after NYI scored

if Panarin shoots the puck more often than not, he's gonna score a ton of goals.

With all the crap that people threw at Strome in the off season, he looked really good tonight. It’s almost like having an off season to get away from the Edmonton stench has done him some good.

Go figure. Shocker.

i have always been a fan of Strome. I personally want him resigned to a multi-year contract. brings grit bite and skill to his game. underrated player. I personally wish Namestnikov can get traded. was hoping for a different player in that McDonagh trade. i would have kept Miller

I'll admit that I was skeptical with some of the expectations for Fox coming into this season, but he's definitely lived up to them so far. He looks great out there.

Came here to say this too. Wasn't sure he'd be able to do at this level of competition, but the guy has been money.

You know by around game 40 he'll begin to break down as most rookies do. The skill and ability is there though. His breakout passes are very calculated and his poise with the puck is next level good.

Having him and DeAngelo throwing tape to tape out of the zone is going to be fun. Tony whips the puck to players, Fox seems to make those silky smooth passes, so a little variety in how they get it done.

Lemieux and Strome had good games

I know people like to crap on the fringe players but I thought O'Regan looked decent last night. Not going to make the team but as a call-up? Sure.

Howden looks quicker than last year as far as his straight ahead speed.

Lias looked good playing in every situation. He has that extra half a step which is allowing him to create just a bit more time and space for himself. His hockey IQ is there, all he needs is a bit more time.

Fox was very good.

I really didn't think Smith looked bad at all.

That first line really started to click which is great to see.

Kakko's style concerns me slightly just in the fact that with the way he hangs on to the puck for so long he takes a lot of unnecessary punishment.

Kravtsov is catching up to the speed required to play at this level.

Haley to me is still a guy I would sign and place in Hartford.

I also like Strome. They flashed a graphic that showed that among all players
who were traded at the deadline last year
he had the most goals for the team he was traded to. He definitely kicked it up a gear last night, playing with better players.

Much agreed on O'Regan. Not a regular, but he looked good and works hard. He'd be great for Hartford and also as a depth call-up.

Lemieux looks good, but I think there were a few instances where he looked like he was trying to do too much.

Not sure what's going on with Howden. His skating is good, but he's lacking those moments of high-end skill that he had last year to start. I wonder if the concussion has anything to do with it, or was he just lucky? He was consistent to start, though, so that's a decent streak of luck if so.

Lias looked good. His skating still needs improvement if possible, but I'd also like to see him get a shot with more offensive players. He has the IQ.

I think it's easy to forget Kakko is 18. He'll get it. Same with Howden. There were a few moments where Howden was caught with his head down.

I'm just a bit concerned about having Fox stuck with Staal.

What is strange is that I have a very different take. I think Smith looked pretty bad and most of that has to do with watching offense die on his stick time after time again. I feel like he is playing hot potato with the puck and although he was never an offensive juggernaut, I do remember him certainly having more poise than what we are seeing.

I don't think that is a good idea just yet. He looked good last night for sure but I think this level of play needs to continue before that is an option. But his improvement was absolutely noticeable and Ryan Strome playing at a high level is a good thing because even if the team has no interest in him long term, he could be a very nice deadline trade chip.

Why is Marc Staal even a thing in 2019. My main issue is that the sport is too small so you dont have good options or players to replace him from a youth development team like Wolfpack. And how NHL is working is going backwards, and it`s all about luck concerning drafting even the current GM admit that with a new lucky charm last summer.

C. Kreider if he was a soccer player - he would be far below mediocre talent, but in NY he is a hockey star, and there are other players similar to him around the league, because the sport in the larger picture is limited with total amount of players compare to other sports.

Fox was money

Brendan smith is not money

Chad was solid and when he finds his spot and settles in hell be very good at that 3C role

Lots of creative passing tonight this team has playmakers for days

Bread
Kakko
Buch
Krav
Mika
Fox
ADA

We need a smart speedy center for line 2 and it aint ...

Chad
Howden
Fil

Strome so far has my vote

Hank played great as did georgie. Good to see that
I mostly agree with this take, but we haven't seen Chytil play with real talent yet. Holding off my judgment on his viability as 2C until we see it.
