Zipay had the lineup for tonight:

F: Zibanejad, Kreider, Zuccarello, Nash, Grabner, Nieves, Desjardins, Schneider, Catenacci, Andersson, Fontaine, Kosmachuk

D: Staal, Shattenkirk, McDonagh, Smith, Holden, Crawley

G: Lundqvist, Halverson

No idea of combos.

Interesting that Bereglazov isn't getting the second game that we originally thought and Crawley is getting a game rather than being sent straight down like some others.

Outside of Andersson this line-up doesn't excite me in the least. I guess seeing Zibby on the ice will be welcome.

Not going to rush home to watch this one. Streams have been horrific so far anyway. Being an out-of-market Rangers fan that gets blacked out by the NHL for the Flyers, Penguins, and Rangers is the real struggle. :help:

So AV and Gorton were officially as unimpressed with Bereglazov as I was.

Now begins the big last stand for Pionk to make the team.

Few things needs to happen in order for that to take place IMO..

1. Holden gets traded
2. AV finally admits that Staal is ****ing horrible and doesn't belong in this league, but will make the team as the 7th D since he can't be sent to the minors.
3. Pionk outplays Graves (I think he's been better thus far, but the gap is pretty close)
4. We see Smith get reps on the left side.

If #4 happens, that would be a pretty good indication on what they're going to do with Pionk.

Does DeAngelo have any AHL options left?

Because if he does, I could see Kampfer making this team. Its especially odd he's still left, which makes me think he could make this team. AV likes him, played him over Clendening at times last season. There would be no other reason to keep him.

You gotta remember that AV is coach. If Staal and Holden are going to play, would you rather your young players sitting in the press box or playing in Hartford? The answer is that you'd rather they play in the NHL, but if AV says no, I think the second answer is playing in Hartford.

He does, but there is nothing that indicates that they're leaning in that direction.

He's gotten a **** load of playing time in both games playing with guys who were regulars last year. My guess is that they may be looking at using Kampfer as the spare with Staal(vomit)-TDA as the 3rd pair.

First gotta release or trade Holden.

All I'm saying though is that I wouldn't be shocked if Kampfer made the team. No one's talking about him, but AV likes him, and its weird that he's still in this camp over Bereglazov, which makes me think he still has a chance to make the team.

Holden is very tradeable.

I don't think Kampfer has a shot in making the team as a regular. But its not like the Rangers are banking on 1 player to be close to ready if not already there. They've got presumably 3, assuming that Bear Gloves just needs some time to get adjusted to the NHL game.

AV may like Kampfer, but he doesn't like him that much. A broken Kevin Klein got into a game over him during the playoffs last year.

When we first called up Kampfer I was pissed, because he was horrendous in Hartford. Then he came in and actually did a decent job. I'd be okay with him sticking as a spare.

I honestly just think it's because he's already played for us and they know he's going to get games at some point this year due to injuries. Kampfer has been around as a 7/8 guy in this league. He'll play games for us this year, no doubt. Kampfer isn't ever going to be one of the regular 6 on an NHL team though.

Holden is probably in the mix for 3rd pair and 7th D as well - he can play 3rd pair, but problem if AV use him on higher pairings.

He's the big defenseman we took in the draft this year, fourth round I think. He's supposed to be a smart, steady defensive player even though he's on the older side.

Oh yeah, I remember!

He's new. I was thinking he's one of these career AHL guys or whatever.

I don't see Kampfer making the team. I see Pionk or DeAngelo or longer shot Graves making the team. If we didn't have Staal or if we move Holden then two of those three will make it.

Kampfer was signed to be a better version of Chris Summers. The Rangers gave him two years and it's to help develop the younger D in Hartford and to be an emergency call up from time to time. Keeping him around for now is just a matter of respect though he's played better than any of the D that have already been sent down.

Crawley's not making the team either--he's being rewarded tonight for his good showing in training camp. I suspect after tonight he will be in the next to be cut.

That probably goes for Kosmachuk (who has an AHL deal), Catenacci and Schneider too. They'll all be in the next round of cuts. If Desjardins has another blah performance I think we'll be cutting ties with him altogether.

I wasn't surprised by today's cuts. As for Bereglazov--his play last night wasn't very good. He's got to do more than just defend. He's got to be able to move the puck with some confidence. So far we haven't seen that from him.

Anyway I'd try to move Holden and go with these 7 keeping in mind one of them is Staal who can't go to Hartford:

McDonagh, Shattenkirk, Skjei, Smith, Staal and 2 of Pionk, DeAngelo, Graves.

At this point I don't see any way DeAngelo doesn't make the team

I bet you they'll start the season with Holden And DeAngelo rotating at the 6 spot

Graves and Pionk are the top pairing in Hartford, and if one of them takes a big step forward, call em up and trade Holden
