It's insane that Chytil JUST turned 18...

the crazy thing is that was his first game in 4 weeks. When asked if he thought he got to show us his game, he was like "let's see next game" as if there was a second gear.

If there plan is to have LA be a checker, then just send the kid to Europe. Don't stifle his offensive potential by shoehorning him into a defensive role in his rookie season, whether it be at the NHL or AHL level. Go let him light it up with Dahlin in Frolunda.

you're reading into that WAAAY too literally. That isn't the big picture. That was just the plan for tonight so they could evaluate his two-way game, see what he can do with lesser line-mates, and give him some time on the PK.

I did not see tonights game....and I rarely comment anymore anyway, but the level of enthusiasm on here tonight is intriguing. Would it not be wise to step back and pump the breaks a bit. Some of the comments regarding Chytil seem a little over the top.

Knowing AV Puempel will be on the opening night roster. Not that i hate the kid or anything, but definitely would have some guys over him penciled in there.

Puempel was pretty much a non factor this game. Except for fighting. Is that his new thing?

Hating the refs enforcing this face off rule. But liking them enforcing the slashing rule.

Have you heard the good word about our prophet Filip Chytil?

Losing in the second round after having to make the playoffs via a wild card spot is not contending.

Cool you're black and white, "hurr durr if you don't make the finals, you're not a contender". kthanxbai

Tearing down this team and lighting it on fire would be a patently stupid idea. I am talking brain dead halfwit plan stupid.

So much this.

Some of it is definitely overhype, but he really did not look like a late first rounder who just turned 18

The ice was horrific last evening though - the puck bounced all over the place. And that`s why we struggle home in MSG once in a while. Is`t too late for Marc Staal to train acceleration? When he is out on the ice I cringe - so slow.

To think Chytil could make it and LA could not...

What a crazy turn of events. Didn't see this coming

Andersson plays a completely different style, which isn't as flashy and noticeable. Both have a good chance of making the team on talent alone. I just don't think it's good asset management to have them on the team for more than 9 games unless they really improve the team (top-6 role or dominant on the 3rd line)

did Shatty have 3 assists tonight?

I really never noticed just how quick Shattenkirk turns till now.

His starts and stops, and his tight turns are friggin ridiculous.

It is a sight to behold, for sure. This is the type of player we have been lacking on the right side for over a decade.

Lot to get excited about here. Two young prospects who have done very well so far.

Hell of a pass by Zucc, and Chytil wasted no time in getting that shot off.

Shatty as well.

Wooo. Pumped up now.

This is the most exciting pre-season in years. I am definitely pumped to see what happens.

Amazing game by Chytil.

I don't really understand AV's usage of Andersson. You'd think you want to see what he's got and give him ice time and opportunities but he was playing Gropp and Gilmour on the PP2 over him. Obviously if he makes the team he wouldn't be on the PP but he could if there are injuries and he impresses and you'd think you should give him the opportunity over two guys with zero chance to make the roster.

Andersson is seen as a 2-way center, similar to Stepan. If you want to see how a guy does in a defensive role, his usage last night makes sense. I just hope he gets a chance to show his offensive upside as well. Chytil played with Kreider and Zuccarello. Andersson deserves a game with those type of linemates, because he has been really impressive in the limited role he has been given so far.

Chytil is a more flashy player and won't do well in a bottom-6 role so I understand AVs reasoning behind the line combinations.

Anyone else impressed by tambellini? Big smooth skater, fast decent hands. Thought he was very noticeable

It has been a while but Tambellini is growing into a very nice prospect, under the radar. Not that he will be a top-6 contributor for the Rangers, but with another year in Hartford, he might turn into a good option for a bottom-6 role. He has a long way to go still but the progression is certainly nice to see.

Chytil FTW was too perfect :)

4 AM in the morning and I am yelling because Chytil capped off a wonderful game with the game-winner in OT, on the powerplay, with less than 10 seconds to go. That was perfection

Chytil looked legitimate. You can see the skill, give him another season or so to fill out physically and he may be a top prospect in the league.

I thought Smith had a really bad game.

Chytil is the GOAT...

Also, Marc Staal was the worst player on the ice in a game where half the players were AHLers, that's not a good sign. And no, he wasn't just bad, or kinda OK or covering.

He was THE worst player on the ice, he gave me an ulcer he was so bad.

He is worse than Wade Redden was at the end before being sent to Hartford.

Yes, Wade Redden was a better defenseman in 2010 than Marc Staal is in 2017

People are making Staal out to be a disaster but let's be honest Gilmour was the worst player on the ice for either team and Staal was anchored to him. I wanna see Staal playing with DeAngelo and Pionk before writing him off.

Staal's suckitude was all on him. Case in point - on his first shift. he, 1) gets his shot blocked, 2) turns the puck over in his own end, and 3) takes a holding penalty. None of that had anything to do with Gilmour. In the third period on a shift, after struggling to defend against an AHL like Gibbons, he proceeded to get beat wise by Stafford, not exactly a speedster. He's cooked. After watching last night. he'd be a disaster next to Pionk or ADA. The best thing for this team woukld have been to buy him out this summer, and roll with ADA and Pionk on ELCs, and keeping Holden around. But, they're likely going to have to move Holden, and Staal will end up playing himself into the press box.

Some of it is in fun, but, the kid was very impressive last night. It seemed like every time he was on the ice, he was making something happen or displaying one of his many talents. He's very highly-skilled, skates very well and has very good size, while only being 18. Frankly, the sky looks like the limit for the kid. Even some of the cynical posters were impressed by Chytil. It looks like he's a home run pick.
