Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

In regards to Laviolette, I think his questionable lineup decisions are tied to his decades long habit of setting them based on practices and film sessions.

We hear it a lot from him. "It's the unit we've gone with in practice" He doesn't like to deviate and go with his gut during the game. Thats why we see the same players in the same roles. He isn't comfortable putting a player (especially a young one) in a spot just because they are having a good game.

An example: Multiple times he could have had Cuylle out there late in games when he had a hot stick but instead he was toting Kreider and Mika when they were just driftwood at the time. Because thats the units they go with in practice. Set plays. Set approaches. Set units. Dont deviate from that. God Forbid. Too risky.

Once he decided Cuylle earned his trust, he made the lines switch and now you see him in some of those scenarios.

In regards to Jones, I think once he forms an opinion on a player its hard to break it. I also believe that he specifically doesnt like having two undersized, similarly skilled offensive minded Dmen in the lineup at the same time in Jones and Fox. Thats why we are seeing Jones get more ice time now that Fox is sidelined. He just sees him as a backup to Fox and not a standalone threat on the ice.

I would define getting outscored by 22, 4, and 9 at 5v5 and outshot by 142, 69, 131 in his three full years as pretty bad.
Sure because ONE guy on the ice out of 5 skaters should be held responsible, and other factors like linemates and usage be damned! ...
I think "we have different definitions of "bad"" covers it.

3 way
Rant to LA
LA/NY stuff to CAR
CAR/LA stuff to NY

fill in da blanks

til tom peeps...
Panarin +/- to la
Mikko +/- to nyr
Fiala +/- to canes

I actually think Panarin would have a bigger impact on the kings than mikko would based on the lack of passing and creativity in the King's offense, that's exactly what Panarin brings. Panarin dominates the puck to make plays and mikko isn't that type of player. Kings are a heavy team and kind absorb Panarin's deficiencies better than say nyr can

Why does everyone say Ferraro sucks? How many of you actually watch him enough to know that? Just curious, not being curt but I notice all of you saying he sucks

Nothing too groundbreaking. reiterated the Rangers will trade Kreider if they get a good enough offer but it will most likely be draft picks and futures. Also Drury is looking for a left D.

I enjoyed this regarding the Rempe/Wilson jawing:

“He was yelling at me, ‘Don’t hit Ovie! Don’t do that to Ovie! Don’t hit Ovie!’ ” Rempe told The Post after the match had ended with a 3-2 overtime defeat to the Caps. “I told him I’d hit anyone I want.” Love this kid.

"Don't hit Ovie" after Certified Badass Tom Wilson dropped the gloves with Panarin is pretty rich. Good for Rempe.

I know everyone was treating him like some genius when he made the original Rantanen trade, but Im pretty sure Eric Tulsky is an idiot. He traded 2 young centers he didnt want to pay for a UFA he couldnt pay. He's taken the team Waddell built and brought it further away from Cup contention lol. Tyler Dellow, John Chayka type grifter.

Best part about the Canes is all they need is a goalie and their dumb FO just keep shuffling the other players around. And again I am firmly of the opinion the Canes rushed that trade cause the Miller to NY was heating up and they only make trades when the Rangers are looking.

I actually thought MacFarland was the one looking good after the initial trade. He got really good NHL value for a potential rental, and how it is looking even more like a rental situation.

I don't see NYR trading Laf unless they are bowled over with a massive offer. And I absolutely agree with that tact. Pretty much NO one is untouchable, but its going to have to be a fantastic offer...

Then he traded for Lindgren lol.

The mainstream NHL media likes to ballwash the "analytics" GMs like Tulsky and Dubas, even though they have poor track records. I am wise to their narratives.

Carolina just does stuff and seems to disregard long-term outlook, their team identity, and the market they're in.

The whole thing about Moneyball wasn't just analytics, it was "we need to find a method of operating that fits what the Oakland A's organization is capable of."

I get that the Canes need a bit more skill, but this is the second straight deadline they brought in a guy that has no interest in being in Carolina.

Meanwhile, you had Martin Necas who did extend and maybe you get him on another one.

All Necas really wanted was a bigger role, and looking at their roster, I don't see any reason he couldn't have been a go-to guy and on their top powerplay unit. That's Brind'Amour being a weirdo and Tulsky needs to come get his man.

They're a good team and they could come out of the mediocre ass East, but they're very dysfunctional.

Carolina is my least favorite team but I don’t really have an issue with Tulsky taking a swing with Rantanen

It’s probably gonna blow up in his face but I’d rather my GM be aggressive than sit on his hands

Starts with their owner. The Athletic just did a recent poll with 18 agents rating ownerships & Dundon was called out by far for being a complete micro-manager. So you want to be Jerry Jones, you get Jerry Jones results.

I wonder if a team like Edmonton has called about Quick. I'm sure NYR would give Quick the final say .. do you think he would be open to 1 last crack at a Cup as a [potential] starter?

And at least Jerry Jones has "we're the Dallas f***ing Cowboys" to fall back on. Dundon runs his Moneyball team with a Cowboys ego.

If Drury traded 2 young C's for an unsigned rental, there would be attempts made on his life by members of this board.
