Staal and Holden after like Jun. 20th or so were always going to be on the team the whole season. If you wanted any of these young guys to have any chance of making the team before next season, we couldn't sign other veterans.

Yes, we have a lot of bottom pairing caliber dmen. We didnt last season. Holden filled a need. Hes a #6/7 and a decent one at that. Nothing more, nothing less.

I would not read too deep in to how our vets look. They are just trying to get their legs and games. They know they have the team made. They are not trying to look great in preseason.

What? When did I insist Staal had to play? You are now making stuff up because your hypocrisy is being exposed?

Nobody wants staal and Holden. You're talking about 5 and 6 d men and saying they need to be in shattenkirk and smiths spots. No. They can be 5 and 6 d men. You're blaming every poster here for a decision AV might make.

vets get outplayed by kids all the time in preseason, it's not really the same for them

The defense looks good minus holden. Anderson is very strong on his skates. Boo definitely is making a case for himself. And Buch isn't falling over himself every 10 seconds

This team screwed itself over on the back end. Really was no need to sign Shattenkirk and re-sign Smith, you are only blocking your NHL ready youngsters and spending big amounts of the salary cap on guys who's role will be replaced by someone younger who costs much less.

We'd prefer they take the roles of Holden and Staal, but that wasn't going to happen. This team knew their choice, and they decided against giving these players a chance.

Haha , I love the projected top 4 and Holden is ufa , Staal bought out or dealt next year

Nothing irks me more than when a vet, who's supposedly working out all summer shows up without being in game shape.

They're supposed to be setting the example for the youngsters and there's just no excuse for it..
