Every single NHL GM would choose Shattenkirk and Smith over Pionk and Graves.

Not everything is a who's better contest.

This team needed to get younger and cheaper on the back end. They added some fine players, but they marginally got younger and did not get cheaper. The younger and cheaper that everyone is enjoying watching right now will be in Hartford.

If y'all want to complain when these guys don't play in the NHL this season, you shouldn't have been happy when we signed two more veterans after getting rid of two veterans. I sure wasn't. I knew that meant the DeAngelo's, Graves, Pionk's were going to play in Hartford this season.

I would rather have Shattenkirk and Staal than Staal and Pionk.

The argument here isnt Neal Pionk replacing Shattenkirk, its half our AHL defense replacing Staal.

We play the Sharks on 10.23 so maybe Hertl can retire Staal then too.

If a top 3 PP specialist in the league comes to you, begging to play for your team and happens to play your weakest position, you take him. This league is wide open for anyone to win a cup. We have to take this shot.

Everything IS a who's better contest. The whole ****ing league is a who's better contest.

"Who cares if they're vastly inferior, they're younger and cheaper!!"

You're starting to sound like Bernmeister.

Buch looks good out there same with ADA, Pionk, Graves, and LA(although I'd like to see more offense from him)
Schneider is useless and not good at all
Ho-Sang is a beast
Kampfer is solid and I think he can be a steady #6 if given the chance

I will complain but I'm going to complain about Staal and Holden, which you're going though mental gymnastics to write off as a non issue to fit your narrative.

Yeah, seriously. If there's anyone to complain about, it's Staal and Holden. Who the **** doesn't want a top-4 of McDonagh-Shattenkirk and Skjei-Smith? There's also a possibility they signed Smith long-term in case Skjei struggles as a sophomore or they have to bite the bullet with McDonagh if they don't want to sign him. There's so much ****ing nuance involved in these decisions.

None of these guys are taking Shattenkirk's role any time soon...

Shattenkirk was 4th in the league in points by a d man.

Poink and DeAngelo will be extremely lucky if they ever reach that level let alone in the next year or two.

And no team leave multiple top 4 d spots open hoping guys with little to no experience will jump in and be fine. There are actual stakes for the people who make these decisions, they're not forum posts.

Holden can be moved...

They can also choose not to play Staal but I'll believe that when I see it.
And don't forget to factor in injuries. McD gets hurt once a year now. As does Staal usually. This kids will get some games. Just because they aren't full timers this seasons doesn't mean their potentials go down. Let them season in the A.

I love this mindset.

"I knew the consequences and I ignored them, but I am going to still complain."

Staal and Holden after like Jun. 20th or so were always going to be on the team the whole season. If you wanted any of these young guys to have any chance of making the team before next season, we couldn't sign other veterans.

I remember catching all kinds of hell when I said Holden sucks after he was just traded here..Just sayin :shakehead

Hes really not THAT bad. Staals way more of a problem than Holden. Holden is just derpy and we have better guys now.
