I`m happy this night and I know it`s only pre-season, but we won the first pre season NHL game, and the coach`s Quinn overall positive impressions for me. I can go more in-depth how we defended on right side of the puck in own D zone - and when you saw Marc Staal took care of one of the rebounds! Staal who is not the quickest player in NHL! ))

Then you would have to ask me about the part you didn’t highlite where I said “I thought he was ok”, which is less than excellent/outstanding , and I felt Pionk looked stronger carrying the puck as well as his D2D passing.

Andersson was great. Funny that he scored on a clean breakaway after hearing about how he’s such a horrible skater. Beautiful shot on that first goal too.
Thought Buch also had a very good game after a slow start. I think having him on the PP point is pretty brilliant honestly. His shot is one of the best on the team when he gets it off, and he thrives with the puck on his stick. Really good call by whoever. I thought he looked excellent back there on the PPs.
Tony D made a few really beautiful passes from deep in his own zone.
Pionk was fighting it for the first half or so imo then seemed to get better.
Felt like Hayes was just killing plays in the o zone for a lot of the game but he was excellent on the PK for the most part.
The talk about Kreider already is insane. It’s 1 game. Hall is a hell of a lot better than Kreider and he wasn’t exactly shining either. It’s literally the first preseason game.

Andersson had a quiet Traverse City Tournament. I was told we were in bad shape because the group did not win there. And yet here we are in TC/Preseason and Lias goes out and scores twice against a mix of veterans and kids. Guess were ok again. Until tomorrow at least when the panic reaches some other idiotic level.

Defense looked pretty decent yes even Staal and O'Gara looked good.
DeAngelo took a dumb penalty, but was not bad.
Schneider is having another good pre-season, he can really play.
Fogarty looked decent, McLeod wasn't too bad either.
Nieves has a disastrous game, took a bad penalty, failed to show any speed or skill, and then got destroyed with a hit and likely has a concussion.
Goalies were pretty good
Meskanen looked good and NHL ready
Lindqvist only got 7 minutes of icetime.
Gettinger looking good again.
Andersson had himself a great game. If he keeps it up he makes the team.

It's almost as if a short tournament doesn't matter!
Honestly training camp doesn't really matter either except for those who are fighting for spots. I know its an "open competition" but it really isn't. There are maybe 4 or 5 spots up for grabs and most of those are in the bottom 6 and 5-6-7 D.
I don’t know if this has been previously noted but about 20 seconds before the winning goal, Lias came off the ice early and may have missed a chance at a hat trick and the winning goal. Pionk curled in the near corner, there was a ton of open ice and he was waiting (expecting?) Lias to fill the gap. Instead he went for a change and Buchnevich came on. The rest is history.
