So far I really like Hellickson. I see he is older though, makes sense.

i know it's been mentioned in media already, but SDA looks noticeably bigger

Yes but I still see the same issues. He had some nice evasive moves in his own end on the PP that makes you say wow, but even now he was getting bullied off pucks.

Robertson doesn't belong here. He's way too good. SDA looks like he's done this a bunch of times too. Steeves looks solid, nothing spectacular but he does his job and plays hard. Gogolev was noticeable that period in a positive way. He's been flying around and has noticeable chemistry with SDA. Scott looked good, Hoffenmeyer, Hellickson and Villeneuvue were noticeable on the backend. As someone else mentioned Voit looks like he's bouncing off people and getting taken off the puck quite easily. He seems to have a good skill set and can be sneaky if he can improve his agility. I like his game but I think my thought of him being Marner lite might be too pie in the sky. His skating style reminds me of Brad Marchand though.

Pare actually had a few nice shifts in the first period.

Duszak's ability to defend will always be in question but he can certainly break the puck of of his own zone and makes a great first pass.

That Pietroniro-Sevigny pairing was not very good. Sevigny made a few bad passes and plays, and he generally looks slow. Pietroniro just looks like a guy who is bound for the ECHL even though he wasn't really that bad. Hellickson has looked a lot more refined, and has made a strong pairing with Duszak.

I found the entire bottom 6 to be mostly unnoticeable. They had nice minute-munching shifts to let the big-guns in the top 6 rest and a few nice plays here or there, but nothing overly noteworthy. A solid effort that you want from your depth guys, but I am not sure how many favours it does them when they are trying to fight for a role with the Marlies or for a contract.

Duszak's defense has improved a lot since his first year. That is probably why he received another contract. I doubt he ever makes it to the NHL full time, but he may get a few games next year. It's tough to really gauge him in this game though. He is taking a lot of pinches, some of which are not great, but because Columbus' entire lineup is full of slower big guys, he knows his skating ability (and Hellickson's solid supporting play) allows for him to get back into position without having to worry about the consequences. I guess that makes him smart for adapting to his opponent, but he probably knows that some of those pinches will burn him against faster teams.
