I like how people suggest that UFAs will sign in Edmonton.

They won't.

How many UFAs do they Islanders sign? That's where we are right about now. Probably worse off because not too many players want to play and live in a fish bowl.

Then Gillis needs to lose his job... in fact if and when he is fired... it will be because of this exact reason... he has failed to get full value in any trade... just one rough ride after another from opposing GMs

It comes down to this.. even if MacT ran over his dog and ****ed his wife.. if the Oilers are offering the best package for something it behooves Gillis to take it... "rivalry" be damned... the two teams are riding opposite waves any way... while the Oil (ideally) push for the playoffs and contention the Nucks will be on their way down and playing for high picks... the fight for 3 point games will be irrelevant

To that end...

Yak + EDM 1st for Kesler, Edler, Hansen

Resign Gazdic (2 years $1.6M)

Team building does matter I would never argue the opposite. It won't take Nuge and Reinhart 5 years to be able to lock horns on an even footing with the best in the west they will both come along a lot faster then that.

When you are smaller you do have to work harder to fight for pucks and beat bigger men, but even better than working harder is working smarter and both Nuge and Reinhart are capable of that. A lot of it depends on positioning and just having an active stick and knowing the proper angle and timing for engaging a bigger opponent, you don't go out there and have a test of might you have to be smart about it. There are plenty of smaller men who do take a beating to win the puck battles, but if you have the fortitude and desire with the right amount of skill you can make it work. I can't even count the number of times I've seen Marty St. Louis thrown around and abused out there, but he never quits.

If we aren't able to acquire a big center to start the year I want Eberle gone. In general I feel the time is overdue and we need to cash in on him, I'd like to move Gagner as well, but with him the return is going to be so dissapointing I almost want to hold onto him a bit longer to just push his value up a bit higher, but it might be one of those times its just better to swallow the pill regardless of how bitter it might be.

It's Nuge's third year. He's not strong enough. Will Reinhart be ready faster? What if it takes him 4 years too?

If we trade Eberle I have time for Reinhart.

And the Kesler proposal.

Ryan Kesler doesn't want to play in Canada anymore. Sure, lets make that deal and have Ryan Kesler demand a trade again in ten seconds.

It's hard to view this thread seriously, I check now and then for a good laugh.

When you offer them more money they will.

You think/hope.

Defending against Patrice Bergeron is one thing.

Defending against Getzlaf, Thornton, and Kopitar is another.

you are right. but its a gamble i am simple willing to take because the risk is, IMO, lower than that of Yak becoming the next Bure (not going to happen). Myers' ceiling is he becomes one of the best D in the world.

If a deal for say, John Boychuk , I might do that aswell. he is more proven, but his ceiling is already reached. he is a very good #3. Boston won't make that trade, tho.

Then this forum will ***** about over paying guys.

Could you imagine if Clarkson had signed with us and put up a dud of a season?

So obvious solution is to come into a proposal thread and ***** about this forum speculating right?

Seriously if you don't want to participate, feel free to click the ignore button next to the thread.

Why would Buffalo draft Ekblad first overall? I'm pretty sure they prefer Reinhart/Bennett.

These were the Oilers draft odds before the game

If we get 3rd overall, chances are Buffalo takes Reinhart, but after that, I think CGY, FLA or NYI is taking Ekblad, for the record.

Curiously, how would people react to something like this?

Eberle for Simmonds and Streit

Yes, you're giving up the best player in the deal, and there's a wealth of risk in Streit's contract blowing up in your face. But at the same time, it does solve two of the biggest issues with the club (size in the top 6, and someone who can lead the offence from the blueline).

If you can manage to transform Gagner and even someone like Klefbom into players with size to fill the two blanks (Berglund, Sutter, Anisimov, Stafford, Brouwer, Moss, ect), that's actually a balanced team moving forward.

A pair of balls is still what this team lacks.
April 10th, someone needs to sucker punch Nolan simple as that.
Sad but true. Knock him out. If the punch isn't clean enough then someone else do it too until the message is sent. Need a little crazy in this game. Nothing else to play for now. This team needs to be taken seriously one way or another.

PHI wouldn't trade Simmonds for Eberle straight up, no way.

Isles haven't been willing to spend. Obviously we can't get the top notch guys but I'd like to think we'd be able to sign at least someone in the Niskanen/Fayne mold if we throw enough money their way. Clarkson wanted to sign close to home so you can't compare it to him. There's plenty of loser teams around this league, I don't think any has an advantage over the other when it comes to signing tier 2 / tier 3 FA's. It all comes down to the money offered.

I wish the Oilers had a guy like Keith Yandle. He is a number 2 dmen IMO. If he ever becomes available, the oilers should offer up a deal around Eberle for him then trade our pick (if Ekblad is off the board) for Myers. Our D problems are solved :sarcasm:

First I'd fire Kevin Lowe.
Then I'd fire Mac-T.
Then I'd fire Eakins.
Then i'd hire the best experienced coach out there to a 5 year deal and have a clause that says he gets 10M if he gets yanked before he's 3 full years into the contract.

Then I'd tell that new GM to trade Eberle, Petry and either our 2014 or 2015 1st rounder for Weber.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

You know what, give me a hit of that.

Doughty, Subban, Piterangelo, Karlsson, Meyers. One of these things is not like the others.

Depends what was said to Nolan, he looked like he was alright backing away and Joensuu said something. I don't see Sutter being a fan of a horrible 4 minute penalty for no reason.
