you think Price wants to be part of this rebuild and wouldnt want to go out west at this point?

of course we dont WANT Vlasic, but thats what you have to take in order to trade Price WITHOUT salary retained

Price is under contract, if Habs have to pay to get rid of him or even if they retain salary they don't receive a good enough return, they might keep him and he couldn't do anything about it.

When he accepted this contract, with his health status and uneven performances these last few years, he more or less secured his stay in MTL until the end of his contract.

The good news is he'll probably get LTIR'ED 2-3 years from now.

Afaic, Chiarot, Toffoli, Lehkonen and Allen would be the easiest players to trade in order to initiate the rebuild, returning valuable returns.

Kulak, Wideman and Paquette would be easy to sell too, returning less valuable returns.
But if they can get late picks out of them, go for it.

Price, Gallagher and Petry all have problematic contracts.
Trading them will be more complicated, might be more like summer deals.

with SJ in the playoff picture and clearly having goalies woes, could this be one of the only possible trades the Habs can move Price WITHOUT retaining salary?

Vlasic has his own horrible contract at $7M until 2026, but cheaper than Price for a buyout.

Point is, you dont want to keep a goalie who can win you games when youre trying to tank/rebuild. Makes no sense.
Yeah I wish.

Nobody would be stupid enough to take vlasic's contract at anything less than 50%.

This doesn’t make sense tbh….

even if they retained say 4m on Price and traded him for Future Considerations, they could find a bottom pair declining D man just as useless as Vlasic for like a million bucks, 1.5m tops?

4m+1.5m is cheaper than 7m. And at 6.5m I’m not completely convinced they couldn’t get an asset or two for Price either (nothing big, but better than nothing)

I don't get what this proposal is trying to accomplish. Even if Price is not expected to return and is LTIR'd, you don't swap for Vlasic and nothing. You either ride his salary to meet the salary floor, or find some other team to swap for their healthy body and a basic cap dump and picks so that they get to play the LTIR game. If Price is returning, this further doesn't make sense.

They were talking about this very trade on 690 two days ago. Habs ask for a first and Bordeleau in deal.

Habs do it if San Jose adds a 2022 or 2023 1st round pick and an A-level prospect.
And Sharks won’t do it with just Vlasic. This whole thread belongs on the Habs board because all it’s turned into is Habs talking about what they need while not a single person has answered why the Sharks add more cap for a player that hasn’t played this season when the Sharks aren’t contending and Reimer/Hill are doing just fine.
