We need a winger though. The future is Suzuki / Dach / Beck / Evans.
Evans probably looks to cash in as a 3C elsewhere when his contract ends, and Dach has been extremely effective on the wing as well. Counting on Beck to be an impact 3C right out the gates also seems like a longshot, and I also don't know if the Suzuki/Dach are a strong enough 1-2 punch to have a 3C with limited offensive upside. If someone like Lundell became available due to cap reasons that's the type of player I'd want to move Struble+ for, he's so steady as is I think his value will only increase as he gets more comfortable and takes more chances

Next year Dvorak will finish his disappointing term with Montreal as 3C. Evans gets one last crack at 3C as well. Gives Beck a full year in Laval to develop. Dach is the Habs 2C - just has had a run of bad luck. No point chasing a young 2C when we have one.

The cost to trade for a young C with 2C potential is crippling. Habs are not gonna go there.

Kaliyev would be a nice fit for the Habs. Just not sure what we would need to add to Struble to get him.

Yeah, but when he mentioned "go nuclear", I think many will see it as "blowing it all up" rather than "doubling down and acquiring immediate help to save management's jobs"
"Going Nuclear" for Blake will be doing the stupidest thing possible, which is trading more futures and young cost controlled talent for a last ditch prayer at clinging to the final wildcard spot, and failing.

I fully expect Blake to be gone in the summer, though it'll be at least two years too late for fans of the Kings. ALL The damage will have been done, and we may be looking at a scenario where it's not even worth keeping Byfield and Clarke because by the time any help arrives via draft they'll be on the wrong side of 30. f***ing depressing as hell.

Unfortunately unless someone higher up in AEG is paying attention and Robitaille is jettisoned along with him, we'll probably just get Bergevin or Nelson Emerson as our next GM and the misery will continue.

Not sure if the Kings would be looking to move Roy, but if they are, that's a hockey trade I think could benefit both teams.

LA would be gambling on Bert though so I have to think the + from Toronto would be decent?
They should be looking to move Roy, they have no cap to pay him when his contract is up at the end of the year. Blake gonna Blake though.

Who made the call on the PLD trade? Was it Bergevin or Blake?

Blake is the GM. If PLD were from Calgary or Bergeron were from Boston nobody is trying to make this claim.

Just like with the completely debunked "Faber didn't want to sign in LA" nonsense, it's an excuse that is thrown around mostly to try and deflect blame from the worst GM the Kings have had in decades, if not ever.

What would that ++ be though from TO?

I'm really not sure.

I'd imagine the Leafs could/would need to retain on Bert to even out the cap hits (~$2.35M or so, based on puckpedia?) and then....not sure what else the Kings would be looking for and/or need....

I'd also imagine the Leafs would want to be confident that they could extend Roy.

There's also the matter of Bert waiving his NMC.

Yeah the plus would probably be a 2nd or a prospect of similar value to a 2nd.

It's true. And saying "discount" in the thread title is misleading, too. It suggests you're selling, not buying. But still, the OP was clear. He's asking what the Kings can add for their futures.
Yeah, but reading is hard for many on here.

Kings are dead in the water, and I fully expect Rob Blake to pull a Dave Taylor and empty the cupboard to save his and TM's jobs before it's too late.

Knowing full well every GM in the league will be throwing him an anchor not a life vest, I'm just curious what he could even try to get for basically anyone under 25. Have to assume regular roster players are off the table, so the only 'untouchable' under 25 would be Byfield. Assume roster vets are a no go--no Danault, Kopitar, Kempe, Fiala etc.

I FULLY expect the following to get dealt:
-one of Clarke, Spence
-Turcotte, Fagemo
-2024 1st
-2025 1st, 2nd

I wouldn't be surprised to see the following go:
-Kaliyev
-Moverare

I doubt the following are moved, but possible in a 'hockey trade' (keep in mind Blake isn't interested in futures):
-Roy
-Arvidsson

Additional parts that could go
2024 4th round and later
2025 picks
Chromiak, Madden, Thomas, Moverare, Pinelli...lots of European prospects like Kirsanov, Simontaival, etc...basically any prospect.

Yes, we know they're all depreciated assets because of the Kings' development. Kings are probably looking for a 3C now that they've white flagged PLD and moved him to wing, possibly a goaltending upgrade (not a sidegrade like Jake Allen).

Again this isn't at all what I would do--just working on the expectations of Blake/TM that the Kings are an all-in contender and trying to see what they might do around the league, i.e. what centers/depth players are available (Blake usually likes to jump the deadline).

Current Kings lineup:

PLD-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-Danault-Fiala
Kaliyev-Byfield-Laferriere
Grundstrom-AndersonDolan-Lewis

Lizotte, Arvidsson injured

Doughty-Anderson
Gavrikov-Roy
Englund-Spence
Clarke

Talbot
Rittich
Copley (deceased)
Are we already to this point?

how is kaliyev developing?

his willingness to play d
his boardplay
would he look good next to a stutzle?
He has potential to blow up offensively wherever he goes, but especially next to Stuzle. He is willing to go into the battle but not succefull enough is how I would say his defensive game is.

As an ex Dubois fan that now thinks of him as PLDonkey, I'm going to pass on any meaningful trade.

We need forwards for developing defenseman thus will not get full value for them. Not trade deadline material unless a team is selling. Then again,. anything a team is selling is going to be too old for us.

So unless Hughes still values PLDonkey, I think there is nothing here between the two teams.
