OV goal, his goal stole a point, keeps Jets in the PT race with us. I'm very superstitious, so I want the Jet's to win the PT. The odds are very much against the PT winner winning the Cup. Tie game, Jets got the xtra point in the 3 on 3 skills competition. Very positive for the Caps to go 2 for 2 on the PK against the leagues #1 PP. 1st goal on LT looked like he was distracted on that long slapshot. 2nd/3rd goals from the Jets are challenging shots to stop for any goalie especially on the glove-side having to laterally come across like that. From my perspective, both times the Jets couldn't put us away in regulation. Having scored the OT winner twice against us doesn't show to me that the Jets were the better team than us. 3 on 3 is a regular season part of the game to give a team an opportunity to get the 2nd point, but it does not equate to playoff OT. PP is the only thing negative for the Caps tonight.

Disappointed but not upset. I would always rather win. But good game, felt we were the better team most of the game. We kept their skill in check most the time. Hit a post and then the other way, basically a coin flip. Ovie goal feels good.

Also I want the PT. Another feather and I think the curse is overblown. The odds of winning the cup aren’t great from any seed, give me home ice.

Not for the Caps because we already have won the PT 3 times and it got us nowhere.

Not true.. the last time we won the PT, we won the SC the next year. Im pretty sure Tampa / Avs / Panthers did the same shortly after as well. (the panthers went to two SC's after their PT year, losing 1 and winning 1)... So technically winning the PT is a good omen for what the future holds.

the SC odds are even worse for the team that finishes 2nd overall though..
Yea, the actual stats don’t bear out the supposed curse. IIRC in the 40 years it’s existed, the PT winner still has the best odds to win the SC.

It’s not crucial, but I think it would be a cool accomplishment in their 50th year. And maybe 895 on top of that - historic season in many ways.

The main thing worrying me rn is the PP. I get they want to feed Ovi, but they can’t go into the playoffs like this.

I get the superstitious thing. But what are the odds for 2nd seed to win the Stanley Cup? Asking because dont know, just would guess that it is basically pretty much the same.

We had a pretty good game, I think. Jets tried to goon it up a bit and show us playoff-hockey, and its nice to see we dont blink at that. Business as usual.

Edit. should have read a bit further, the 2nd seed was already brought up. But yeah, we have zero cups when we win PT, and zero when we come in 2nd. I guess we should really aim for 8th seed in the league. On positive side, we have one cup after winning Metro. And one cup And one cup when finishing 100+ pts. And one when we rank over Pens. So there is alot going for us too!

Ovi goal against the Trashers, what's new?

He has another NHL record. Most goals against 1 franchise.

Ovi has 57 goals against ATL/WPG
Corsby has 56 goals against PHI

PIT and PHI were always in the same division during Crosby's time not the case with WSH and ATL/WPG.

I still want the PT.

Protas is the best player on this team. He makes things happen.

betting markets currently give Ovechkin 57% chance to hit 895 this season. 6 goals in 11 games is very doable but I think Ovie needs a multi goal game soon to put me at ease.

They need both Chychrun/Carlson to start shooting and to feed Wilson more. If the top far forward (from the perspective of the half wall) is going to cheat towards Ovechkin, then that is going to leave Wilson or Chychrun/Carlson more open than usual. When those two areas start scoring, that will force the PK to adjust, and the office will be open for business again.

Give me the Stanley Cup and Presidents trophy. Then we’ll be in a class with the 2013 Blackhawks and the 2008 Red Wings.

Undeniably elite.

The office is going to be heavily guarded until Ovie passes 99. It's just what it is.

I hope it's soon, and we can go back to a normal powerplay for the last few games.

Strome remains my top concern when it comes to their overall structural viability. Too often too slow for what's needed. The contract is a peach but if he lags when it matters most I'd at some point need to consider package deals for an upgrade. PLD is rather easily their top center and I don't doubt the Cs thereafter become the main area in need of upgrading near-term. Everything else you'd think is pretty well squared away now.

All of this. Only gripes are 2 bad line changes that led to goals against, and maybe one that LT would like back. But a very good and entertaining hockey game. Two terrific well-matched teams going hard after it.

Playoff PP can be entirely different from RS - unlikely to be "entirely" different, but any Ovie goals won't get Ovie closer to nor further ahead of 99. I'd expect a few wrinkles to the offense in general and the PP in particular in the loffs.
