Very disappointing reaction from our team. Our goalie got ran minutes later as well. Could you imagine if that was the Blues? They would have jumped the guys en mass.

Pearson shouldn't have a choice, he needs to drop the gloves and be done with it. Nurse seems like the appropriate one, Davidson was his D partner and good chance they are the 3rd pairing this year.

If Pearson doesn't honour the code, it's open season on their skilled players. Maybe Toffoli gets targeted? We need our pound of flesh or we'll never be respected by our opponents.

I concur, all this talk about heavier, stronger and change of culture is meaningless if all were going to do is have a civil conversion with the culprit after they head hunt our players. I see how Lucic was probably thinking thats my previous team but we have more than enough "tough" guys to challenge pearson or take runs at their skill players if he doesn't.

Teams aren't just going to roll over and submit to us. That's not how it works, especially in the Pacific. We have to strike fear in them by being a team you don't want to **** with. We have the guys to do that.

No harm against one of our own goes without retribution. Look at how the Blues react when someone goes after one of theirs, Hjalmarsson was swarmed after hitting Rattie a few days ago.

Hendo had to fight multiple times for hitting Ekblad. Nurse who had just turned 21 in the month prior, had to fight a career AHL goon for stomping Polak. By my count going off hockeyfights.com, Haley has 163 pro fights to his name right now. 163!!

Nurse and Pearson seems appropriate. If teams can send guys with literally hundreds of fights at a kid playing in his 20 year old rookie season, then we should also be able to seek retribution how we see fit.

We need to ****ing establish that there will be consequences for taking liberties with our guys. Pearson must answer the bell, the Kings will never respect us if it goes unpunished. Teams won't just stop bullying us because we want them to, we have to punch them in the mouth back.

I hate to say this, but we need to be a dirtier team. Need to dole out the occasional elbow or check the occasional head.

Need to occasionally drive their star players awkwardly into the boards.

Nurse tried sticking up for a teammate once last season who had been dangerously put into the boards and injured. didnt work out so well.

I do totally agree with you, but history seems to show that the punishment is more severe and automatically doled out if an Oiler crosses the line a little bit.

Don't hate to say. We almost are afraid around here to fight back.

We need to love that side of the game and encourage it. We have to be the bully. The Cali teams are not going to stop bullying us, we have to ****ing fight.

Embrace the violent side of our game. Like Pearson, that ****ing guy has to fight Nurse. If he won't fight Nurse, then he has to fight Kassian. He doesn't get the option to not fight someone.

If you think teams will just bow to us, you're wrong. We have to take it from them.

I agree that we need to be meaner, dirtier, crustier.

I'm not sure where McLellan stands on that though. Particularly in the pre season. Another factor to perhaps consider is the refs. Do the OIlers want to put a mean foot forward when initial impressions to the refs may or may not make an impression. And what impression does the team want to make on particular refs who might see them more often than not? It might be far fetched, but I think it's worth consideration.

Gamesmanship applies to the on ice officials as much to the other team's players and coaching staff in many circumstances in hockey from my experience. Maybe it's just number taking time?

But I still wanna see those mother****ers pounded into the icy earth at some point.

I am hoping against all hope that we will be a much tougher team to play against and that the days of our talented players get run over while we stand around and do nothing are over. However I don't think TMac is that kind of coach. What we also need is a power play that strikes fear into the opponents and until we get that RHD PP specialist that ain't gonna happen.

Regarding Pearson I don't think it was intentional but Davidson needs to send a message to him next time they play.

The one thing that cannot happen is allowing our goalie to be run. That crease area has to become sacred Oiler territory defended to the death. We are a Cam Talbot injury away from another joke of a season.

Whoever makes the GDT for the first time we play the Kings. Nurse v Pearson must be in the title.

I'll take on that GDT if need be. We need a pound of flesh from Pearson. Just like Canada got their pound of flesh from Kesler. Tavares ****ed him up. Kesler was scared after that, someone needs to attack him when we play the Ducks. He's on our hit list too, he talked **** about McDavid after playing him.

Pearson needs to have his name repeated here. He hit Nurses partner, Darnell time to fight lad.

If you score on the PP other teams will stop taking cheap-shots. You have to punish them every time, and EDM has the players to do it imo.

You can be in the face of opponents, but for me there is a clear line in between smart agitation and stupid agitation (i.e. taking runs at other players).

One of my surprisingly favorite players has become Corey Perry for this exact reason. He literally plays every single game like it's his last. He will take cheap shots, and give it 110% on the back check and fore check. He ran at Kesler probably 4 times after that game to send a message. The guy bleeds for his team and is an absolute monster for Team Canada. He's cheap as **** and players all notice when he's out there.

I love Perry. He would have been an Oiler if Lowe hadn't insisted Comrie repay his signing bonus.:shakehead

A bit OT, but I've always believed that while Lowe was the public face for that request, it was the Nichols-led EIG that pushed him to do it.

IMO there was still some animosity within the EIG towards Comrie for his hardline stance when he held out for his fat rookie contract coming out of college (IIRC Rich Winter was his agent, who'd had a long and acrimonious relationship with the Oilers for various reasons), and when Comrie wanted to jump ship a couple years later the owners tried to get their pound of flesh out of him on his way out the door.

Just my opinion on it.

Lol of course that was management that forced that request. You think Lowe is going to give a **** and hold up a trade over some bonus? Not likely, he's not the one paying Comrie. We had a cheap ownership group before Katz took over plain and simple.

I know Nichols and he has never struck me as being anything near approaching vindictive. Lowe on the other hand, has shown it time and again.
