It was Tampa’s C team, but Freddie was very much just a guy you throw in there and don’t think about last night. I like that.
Yup. If he's healthy enough to give us around 50-60 starts like that this year, we're gonna be just fine in our defensive zone.

Rangers fan coming into say that DeAngelo has a great shot, good to hear he’s doing well but his wrister is top notch although his slap shot is average. His “bad” defensive game is overstated and pound for pound he’s surprisingly one of the best fighters in the league.

One punch KO’d Okposo, absolutely caved in Nathan Bastian’s face once when Bastian laughed at Tony for trying to fight him. You guys will be surprised by his physicality. He won’t throw big hits but he’s aggressive and he’s the first one to step into a scrum. The lack of defensive game is overstated by those who disagree with him politically. Don’t care what side you’re on politically, but if you actually watch him he really isn’t bad. I know everyone on here remembers Aho breaking Tony’s ankles in the qualifiers but don’t know that Tony was a game time decision that game for, you guessed it, a leg injury.

And to those who still hate the signing, if Brady Skjei and Jesper Fast allowed it, you guys will be 100% fine. DeAngelo was very well liked in the room, he can just be a huge hothead at times. There’s a reason he was invited to Skjei’s wedding who’s a huge character guy and was seen hanging out with every former/current Ranger there
TDA is a king and we will protect him at all costs

3 - TDA definitely has some offensive skill, and is pretty quick to move the puck on the blue line. As long as he keeps his shit together this year, it could be a contract people look back on and wonder how the f*** the rest of the league passed on it.

It could be a good situation for us and work out great. But nobody is going to look back and wonder why others passed on it. His history hasn't changed even if he has.

Not sure if it was mentioned. But seems like the Storm Squad is no more and has been replaced with the “Canes Crew”. They were a bunch of guys & girls, dressed in the Tom Dundon adidas track suits tossing t shirts and holding “Let’s Go Canes” signage.

I must be the only one who watched TDA last night and didn’t see anything close to a Hamilton replacement. Yes he moved the puck on the PP, he also made a couple of sloppy turnovers in his own zone and was 50/50 on his defensive reads. It wasn’t a standout horrible game or anything, but against AHL’ers that’s a lot closer to Joe Corvo than it is to Hamilton.

Isn’t that pretty much exactly as advertised?

I mean, but we're not asking TDA to be a full on Hamilton replacement. He's going to be a 3rd pair defenseman who runs point on PP1, where we are going to do our best to shelter in the defensive zone.

From what I understand, there is still a Storm Squad, but because of COVID they aren't going to be allowed to do the regular cheerleader stuff you would expect this year, at least that's what I heard from someone who is dating one of them.

It was a big part of what made him expendable once the character issues surfaced, yes.

I’m responding mainly to the comment above that criticism of his defensive game is all politically motivated. Last night he was average-to-shaky defensively against literal AHL’ers.

Fair enough. He can certainly skate and pass the puck on the PP. I just don’t view him as some sort of crazy steal based on what we saw last night. If he’s going to be stapled to Cole, he’s going to need to get better on breakouts in particular or we’re in for a rough ride at even strength.

Those people are delusional. They seem to think he can fight like Tim Gleason too. He’s Joe Corvo. He’s even wearing his number. And if he plays like a prime Joe Corvo on the 3rd pairing that’s fine with me.

This.
SO very much this.

Can't wait to see him level someone for taking liberties with turbo or seabass.

Sara Civ and the rest of hr ilk will never leave him alone though.

Yeah we all know your opinion.
Just like we all know mine.

You're right though.
Shit is tiresome. Oh so very tiresome.

You nailed it, we all know each other's opinions and I think we're all tired of the political back and forth and ready to focus on hockey.

Honest question Borsig, not asking this to be confrontational. Why do you add those little political jabs to your posts? Are you oblivious to the fact that they're likely to reopen political discussion? Sure, a rando Rangers fan alluded to it, but that was pretty tame and if you don't slip in that last sentence I bet no one else picks up on it and the issue just dies.

Again, honest question.

In all honesty I haven’t seen the TDA craziness over the last several weeks, and I think it is very close to being settled as long as there are no more incidents.

Sara hasn’t drawn attention to him (positive or negative) in quite some time, and since I don’t follow much of the rest of Canes Twitter I haven’t seen anything from them either.

If you are of the opinion that TDA had one truly disgraceful incident awhile back and the narrative has taken over and made others think it’s a pattern of behavior based on other stuff he does that they don’t like (which I think is a reasonable and backable opinion), you can’t turn around and do the exact same thing to Sara and imply that she continually won’t drop the TDA thing based exclusively on her initial reaction + the fact that you don’t like the other ways she uses her social following.

Sara C even low key said something nice about TDA in her game recap article.

If you go back in time to my posts last year, there's a reason that I was dead silent while the DeAngelo drama was going on with the Rangers...I really did think that he would look good on our team if the need arised. Strip all of the kookiness away, and I realized that he was the only non-Hamilton defenseman realistically available via trade or UFA that had elite offensive metrics both on 5-on-5 AND the PP (Barrie's elite at the latter, but not as much at even-strength). We'll see how it goes, but based on the crowd's reaction last night (I know, small sample, but still), the Twitterati is a microscopically tiny minority of Canes fans. As long as he stays focused on the ice instead of the nonsense, he'll be the perfect buy-low flyer.
